Experts agreed that it is the first time in the world that the technology has achieved 35% of the heat of mixed ammonia combustion in 40 MW coal-fired boilers. The project provides a feasible technical development direction for China's coal-fired units to reduce carbon dioxide emission, and plays a significant role in promoting China's goal of carbon peak and carbon neutralization. It is suggested to carry out industrial demonstration on coal-fired boilers with larger capacity.
Carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired power generation are huge, accounting for about 34% of China's total carbon dioxide emissions. Therefore, reducing carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired power generation is the key to China's successful realization of the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutralization.
Compared with hydrogen, ammonia has high volumetric energy density, low storage cost per unit energy, mature and perfect infrastructure and technology for large-scale storage and transportation. It is a clean energy carrier and low-carbon fuel with great development potential.
