IEA: electric vehicle sales growth is too slow to avoid climate disaster

According to the International Energy Agency, the sales of electric vehicles are still not fast enough to give the world a real opportunity to avoid the worst effects of climate change. The group said on Monday that the current policy will help promote the number of global electric vehicles to about 200 million by the end of the century (compared with 150 million last year). This figure exceeds previous expectations, but is far lower than the 350 million vehicles needed to achieve carbon neutrality by the middle of the century. The International Energy Agency said that in order to stimulate faster economic growth, governments should strive to alleviate the bottleneck of battery materials, increase support for the purchase of electric vehicles, and take action to develop the heavy vehicle market.
