Today, the five provinces of Shandong, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Heilongjiang and Zhejiang have successively started seawater rice transplanting. By the end of 2021, the planting area of seawater rice in China has reached Shanghai Pudong Development Bank Co.Ltd(600000) mu.
In the coastal saline alkali land improvement base in Qingdao, Shandong Province, the staff are inserting the seedlings of several saline alkali tolerant rice varieties such as “yc-22-09” into the field. After ten years of tackling key problems, Qingdao seawater rice research and development center has cultivated eight salt tolerant rice varieties, which have been popularized in large-scale industrialization in China, with an average yield of 450 kg per mu. In 2022, Yuan Longping’s seawater rice team plans to promote the planting of 1 million mu of seawater rice in Shandong, Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Zhejiang and other places, covering the main typical saline alkali land types in China.
According to reports, Qingdao seawater rice research and development center has screened out new materials resistant to 8 ‰ saline conditions, and eight saline alkali tolerant rice varieties have passed the national examination. Saline alkali tolerant rice, high-quality rice, multi spike high-yield hybrid rice and upland rice have been tested and demonstrated in 10 core demonstration bases and nearly 100 variety testing sites in China. Among the 7 self owned varieties approved, 450 sites have been set up in the country for variety display and promotion.
Academician Yuan Longping proposed the goal of “improving 100 million mu of saline alkali land for China and promoting 1 billion mu of hybrid rice in the world”. At present, the “100 thousand project” of seawater rice has been implemented in the country, and the shift speed of industrial development has been accelerated.
It is understood that the “ten hundred thousand project” plan of seawater rice is to carry out the promotion and planting of seawater rice throughout the country, complete the planting of 100000 mu of seawater rice that year, complete the comprehensive utilization of 1 million mu of saline alkali land, and complete the reserve of 10 million mu of available saline alkali land. The project aims to accelerate the industrialization and promotion of seawater rice, expand the national market layout, transform 100 million mu of saline alkali land in 8-10 years, and realize the transformation of saline alkali land into granary.

In 2022, Yuan Longping seawater rice team plans to promote the planting area of more than 1 million mu, which is distributed in Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Shandong, Jiangsu, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Zhejiang and other places, and the varieties cover the main typical salt alkali land types in China.
