Russian media said Austria opened Russian gas ruble settlement account

On May 20, according to the website of Russian television, a spokesman of Austrian national oil company said on the same day that the company had opened a ruble settlement account with Gazprom. It is reported that 80% of Austria's natural gas is imported from Russia.

The ruble settlement order between Russia and "unfriendly" countries and regions came into force on April 1. Since May 20, many European energy enterprises have successively ushered in the deadline for paying Russian gas supply fees in April. Russia said that as of the 19th, about half of the 54 enterprises that signed gas supply contracts with Gazprom had opened payment accounts in rubles.
