On May 19, the first green retail bond in Hong Kong ESG bond market was listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange.
The green retail bond was widely welcomed by investors, and the total issuance amount increased from HK $15 billion to HK $20 billion. The funds raised will be transferred to the capital works reserve fund in accordance with the government's green bond framework for financing or refinancing green projects that have environmental benefits and promote the sustainable development of Hong Kong.
HKEx has always been the preferred place for many governments or enterprises to list ESG themed bonds. As of April this year, 164 ESG bonds had been listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange, with a market size of nearly HK $527.9 billion. From January to April this year alone, 34 ESG bonds were listed in the Hong Kong market.
