The 2022 BRICs high level meeting on traditional medicine was recently held in Beijing and Zhangzhou in the form of Wuxi Online Offline Communication Information Technology Co.Ltd(300959) combination of Wuxi Online Offline Communication Information Technology Co.Ltd(300959) and representatives of officials and traditional medicine experts from China, India, South Africa, Brazil, Russia and other BRICs countries, And unanimously adopted the 2022 BRICs traditional medicine cooperation online initiative.
The initiative calls on BRICs countries to jointly carry out research on the prevention and treatment of major infectious diseases such as covid-19 pneumonia by traditional medicine, give full play to the unique advantages and role of traditional medicine in epidemic prevention and control, and provide more references and powerful weapons for traditional medicine to further participate in global epidemic prevention and control. BRICs countries will conduct extensive exchanges and cooperation in traditional medicine, education, scientific research and medicinal resources, establish a talent training and exchange mechanism among BRICs countries, and cultivate international talents of traditional medicine in various forms.
“Since the outbreak of covid-19 pneumonia, the Chinese government has insisted on continuously improving the diagnosis and treatment plan, adhering to the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine has been fully and deeply involved in the prevention and treatment of the epidemic in China. The application of traditional Chinese medicine and the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine has achieved remarkable results.” Yu Wenming, director of the State Administration of traditional Chinese medicine, said that in March this year, the World Health Organization held an expert meeting to evaluate the treatment of covid-19 pneumonia with traditional Chinese medicine and issued a report, pointing out that the treatment of covid-19 pneumonia with traditional Chinese medicine is safe and effective, and suggested that Member States should learn from and promote it. This assessment result once again proves that Chinese traditional medicine has been tested and renewed for a long time, and is still effective in the prevention and treatment of emerging infectious diseases and global public health governance.
Since the outbreak of covid-19 pneumonia, China has actively contributed traditional Chinese medicine to overseas anti epidemic efforts. According to incomplete statistics, up to now, China has introduced China’s TCM diagnosis and treatment plans to more than 150 countries and regions, provided TCM products to more than 10 countries and regions in need, and sent TCM experts to 29 countries and regions to help guide the fight against the epidemic.
At present, the situation of global epidemic prevention and control is still grim. The convening of this meeting will further lay the foundation for BRICs cooperation in the field of traditional medicine, further promote traditional medicine to play a greater role in improving global health governance, further promote the construction of a human health community and help realize the beautiful vision of “health for all”.
Li Dejin, vice governor of Fujian Provincial People’s government, pointed out that Fujian has given full play to its resource endowment advantages, cultivated a number of famous doctors, departments and hospitals, played an important role of traditional Chinese medicine in disease diagnosis and treatment and the prevention and treatment of major infectious diseases, actively carried out foreign exchanges and achieved remarkable results. The meeting will help promote the participation of traditional medical services in the health governance of BRICs countries, and Fujian is willing to contribute its experience and strength to this end.

Brazil hopes to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with BRICs countries in the field of traditional medicine, jointly cope with the challenges brought by covid-19 pneumonia, and contribute to the development of traditional medicine and human health and well-being.” Sandra Barros, Vice Minister of health of Brazil, said in his speech.
Pramod PATA, deputy director of special affairs of the Indian Ministry of traditional medicine, pointed out that traditional medicine has played an important role in protecting human health. The Indian Ministry of traditional medicine attaches importance to the development of global integrated medicine and believes that the cooperation platforms and mechanisms of BRICs countries can promote the long-term development of traditional medicine.
Alek sonin, deputy director of the Department of international cooperation and public relations of the Russian Ministry of health, believes that the release of the initiative will certainly promote exchanges and cooperation among BRICs countries in the field of traditional medicine and further implement a series of consensus reached at the 12th BRICs health ministers’ video conference. Russia is willing to use the platform of BRICs countries to introduce its effective practices and experience in folk medicine and traditional medicine, carry out academic discussion and exchange, and jointly promote the development of traditional medicine.
In the sharing and exchange, the representative of Brazil said that he hoped to establish a cooperation network with the professional departments of traditional medicine in BRICs countries in the future to share traditional medicine knowledge and biomedical knowledge, so that traditional medicine can better deal with various diseases, including covid-19 pneumonia. The representative of Russia expressed the hope that more traditional medical methods would be used to treat common and infectious diseases, especially the prevention and treatment of covid-19 pneumonia. The representative of India said that India encouraged the production of traditional herbal medicine and the role of traditional medicine in the fight against covid-19 pneumonia and other infectious diseases.
