State Administration of market supervision: 148 food enterprises publicly promised to resist excessive food packaging

According to the General Administration of market supervision, on April 29, the General Administration of market supervision organized an online public commitment activity to “practice the concept of green development and resist excessive food packaging”.

China Food Industry Association, China Wine Industry Association, China Tea Circulation Association, China bakery and sugar products industry association, China Dairy Industry Association, China Beverage Industry Association, China Meat Association, China Bee Products Association, China vegetable oil industry association, China Grain Industry Association and other 10 food industry associations jointly issued initiatives to the food industry and made public commitments to the society:

Strictly abide by the provisions of the law of the people’s Republic of China on the prevention and control of environmental pollution by solid waste and the national standards of limiting excessive packaging of goods and requiring food and cosmetics, seriously carry out self inspection, take the lead in implementing the national mandatory standards, and be a pioneer, practitioner and advocate to resist excessive packaging of food.

Establish the food packaging concept of “safe and practical, resource-saving, green and simple, consumption friendly”, strengthen the standard publicity and implementation training, optimize the product packaging design, improve the proportion of new packaging and simple packaging, advocate the use of recyclable, recyclable and degradable packaging materials, reduce the volume and weight of packaging, save the cost of food packaging and benefit consumers.

Strengthen the management of packaging materials, strengthen supplier audit, and continuously improve the control level of industrial chain and supply chain. Continue to improve product innovation and R & D capacity and production technology level, and actively develop safe, healthy and nutritious food to meet consumer needs. Strictly implement food safety laws, regulations and standards, strengthen the review of food labels, accurately and clearly mark food labels and nutritional information, and guide consumption scientifically and reasonably.

Strengthen industry self-discipline, abide by industry standards, strengthen product quality, operate in good faith and abide by the law, standardize market behavior, take the lead in advocating simple packaging and green consumption, earnestly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of consumers, and consciously accept the supervision of regulatory authorities, news media and consumers.

“Green is a concept, saving is a responsibility”. Excessive food packaging not only wastes resources and pollutes the environment, but also damages the interests of consumers and encourages the wind of luxury and waste.
