On the 28th, with the completion of the reconstruction project of Changshu South substation in Suzhou, the operation of Baihetan into Jiangsu project was officially started. It is reported that the UHV project will be put into operation in two stages. This is the first stage of operation, which is expected to be completed by the end of June. At that time, clean hydropower with a capacity of 4 million KW will be sent to Jiangsu in advance to provide guarantee for the peak power consumption in summer. The second stage is also the final operation time. It is expected that the transmission capacity will reach 8 million KW by the end of this year.
Baihetan Jiangsu ± 800 kV HVDC transmission project is the core hub project of “west to East power transmission”. It started in Liangshan, Sichuan and finally in Suzhou, Jiangsu. The construction was officially started in January 2021.
“After the hydropower of Baihetan is sent to Jiangsu Yucheng converter station through UHV line, the grid structure of the existing Jiangsu power grid needs further transformation and upgrading to meet the requirements of efficient utilization of hydropower.” Wu Wei, deputy director of the Construction Department of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd., said.
To this end, State Grid Jiangsu electric power has “customized” 20 power grid supporting transmission projects for Baihetan Hydropower into the Soviet Union. The power grid supporting transmission projects to be completed in the first stage include four projects, including Wuxi Doushan and Suzhou Changshu South substations, which were started on April 2 and completed on April 27, lasting 25 days.
“The construction period is tight and the safety of supporting projects is affected by the epidemic.” Wu Wei said that on the one hand, the company coordinated local epidemic prevention departments to open up material supply channels and ensure the timely mobilization of manpower and materials. On the other hand, it reasonably allocated personnel for closed construction in Suzhou and Wuxi. There were more than 500 construction personnel on site during peak periods.
At the same time, State Grid Jiangsu electric power carried out safety supervision and quality acceptance by optimizing the construction scheme and operation procedures and innovatively applying UAV technology to ensure that all tasks were promoted as planned.
According to reports, after the project is put into operation as a whole, Sichuan surplus hydropower can be transported to southern Jiangsu on a large scale, with an annual power transmission capacity of more than 31.2 billion kwh, which is equivalent to replacing 14 million tons of raw coal consumption in the receiving area and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 25 million tons, providing strong support for optimizing the energy structure of the Yangtze River Delta and helping to achieve the goal of “double carbon”.
