The reporter learned that Taikang Insurance Group, together with Citic Press Corporation(300788) group and Guanghua Leadership Institute of Peking University, recently held an offline salon Seminar on “sustainable development strategy of enterprises in an uncertain era”.
Wang Hui, Professor of organization and strategic management department of Guanghua School of management, Peking University, Peng Siqing, Professor of marketing department of Guanghua School of management, Peking University, Wang An, a financial writer, and Ying Weiwei, assistant president and Secretary of the board of directors of Taikang Insurance Group discussed “the direction and key factors of enterprise strategic transformation in this uncertain era”, trying to find the reasons behind the enterprise’s adherence to the “long-term” strategy.
Ying Weiwei said that chronism is not only a value, but also a methodology. The so-called chronism is opposed to opportunism. Opportunism is to “shoot and change places”, and go wherever it is profitable. Long term doctrine is to stick to it. Once the direction is selected, it will be intensively cultivated here. From the perspective of methodology, there are three aspects: first, there are clear and stable strategic guidelines; Second, the governance and senior management of the company are very stable; Third, we should use limited resources in the right areas.
In Peng Siqing’s view, Taikang Insurance Group is a company that adheres to “long-term ism”. “Taikang’s long-term doctrine has its own characteristics. Taikang’s’ medicine, nutrition, health and tranquility ‘is a big industry related to life and is of great significance to individuals, families and society. This industry is different from the decorative industry that provides dessert consumption,” he said
Peng Siqing said that it is precisely because Taikang is engaged in a large industry that is vital to life. Therefore, Taikang pays attention to human destiny and national development, and takes the initiative to assume greater and longer-term responsibilities. What it meets is not the “small happiness” demand of consumers to eat good things on a whim, but the “great joy” demand of consumers to settle down their own life, which is an important demand throughout the life cycle of consumers.
Wang Hui believes that there are three important factors for enterprises to adhere to the “long-term doctrine”. First of all, the cognitive ability of entrepreneurs and their executives is very important. Cognitive ability helps to identify business opportunities and gain insight into industries or industries worthy of deep cultivation. Secondly, the personality charm of leaders is also a very important condition, which is related to how to maintain a group of people in the same boat, or even live and die together. Third, management ability is indispensable.
