According to the website of the Ministry of water resources, on April 25, Guangxi Datong gorge water control project passed the stage acceptance of water retaining (52m elevation) of buildings on the right bank presided over by the Pearl River Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of water resources, marking that the project has water retaining conditions for the whole line, and the flood control safety of the Pearl River Basin has been further improved.
Datong gorge project is one of the landmark projects of 172 major water conservancy projects for water conservation and water supply determined by the State Council. It integrates the comprehensive benefits of flood control, shipping, power generation, water resource allocation and irrigation. It is a key control water conservancy hub in the Pearl River Basin. The total investment of the project is 35.736 billion yuan. The construction was started in November 2014, with a total construction period of 9 years. It is planned to be fully completed by the end of 2023. After the completion of the project, it will become an important guarantee for flood control safety in the Pearl River Basin, an important node for the implementation of major national water network projects, an important barrier for water safety in the Great Bay area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, an important hub for the construction of the Pearl River golden waterway, an important support for regional power security, and an important water source for the revitalization of local villages.
