According to the data provided by the energy storage application branch to the Securities Daily, by the end of 2021, the cumulative installed power of China’s energy storage market had reached 43.44gw, ranking first in the world. In 2021, China’s newly installed energy storage capacity was 7397.9mw (7.4gw); 146 new energy storage projects were added. In addition, the report predicts that the installed capacity of electrochemical energy storage in China will reach about 110gw by 2030; After 2025, the annual installed increment of electrochemical energy storage will remain between 12gw and 15gw.

In addition, according to some statistics in the report, the installed power of the global energy storage market in 2021 was 203.5gw, of which the installed power of electrochemical energy storage was 20.4gw, accounting for 10.05%. In 2021, China added 146 new energy storage projects, including 5 pumped storage projects, 131 electrochemical energy storage projects and 120 lithium-ion battery energy storage projects.

It is reported that the report also focuses on the development of new long-term energy storage technology. According to the report, as the research and development direction of energy storage and reserve technology that needs the most attention at present, gravity energy storage, air battery and iron chromium liquid flow battery have their own uniqueness. It is necessary to strengthen technological innovation and development and reserve for future industrialization.

On this basis, the report analyzes and forecasts the new power system construction objectives (20212030) of the State Grid and the South grid. In terms of new energy storage, it is expected that China’s installed capacity of new energy storage will exceed 50 million KW by 2025. However, considering the safety of new energy storage, the lag of energy storage price mechanism and the shortage of new energy storage raw materials, there will be a certain lag in the probability of installed scale of electrochemical energy storage power station. In 2025, the new lithium ion storage technology will still occupy the advantage of 40gw; After 2025, considering the ambitious goal of reaching the carbon peak in 2030, the annual installed capacity of new energy power generation will maintain an average annual increment of 100gw, and the annual installed increment of electrochemical energy storage will remain between 12gw and 15gw.
