Last year, China recalled 8.73 million Mercedes Benz cars, ranking first and Wuling second

Under the background of increasingly strict automobile exhaust emission regulations and the increasing level of automobile intelligent equipment, the frequency of automobile faults is also more frequent.

According to the automobile recall information of the General Administration of quality supervision, inspection and Quarantine of the people's Republic of China, China implemented 144 automobile recalls in 2021, with a total recall of 8.73 million vehicles. Compared with 2020, the number of car recalls in China decreased by about 30% last year, but the total number of recalled vehicles increased by more than 30%, and software problems increased significantly.

According to the recall announcement, Mercedes Benz (including imported Mercedes Benz and Beijing Mercedes Benz) recalled more than 2.78 million vehicles last year, accounting for 31.8% of the total recall. Last December, Mercedes Benz launched four recalls, involving internal and external parts such as vehicle software, sunroof, transmission shaft and seat. It is worth noting that recently, Mercedes Benz announced its global sales in 2021. In 2021, more than 2.4 million new cars were delivered, a record high. In the Chinese market, Mercedes Benz has sold more than 750000 vehicles. The Chinese market is still the largest single market of Mercedes Benz in the world, accounting for 35.5%. However, the number of products recalled in China in 2021 exceeded the sales of new cars in the whole year.

SAIC GM Wuling ranked second, with a total recall of more than 1.45 million vehicles, due to the insufficient wear resistance of the valve core of the engine crankcase forced ventilation valve, which may cause engine damage and unreasonable emission risk in extreme cases.

Toyota, known for its "good quality and low fuel consumption", ranked third in the recall list last year. In 2021, Toyota recalled more than 1.28 million vehicles in China, mainly including RAV4 Rongfang, Asian dragon, Camry and Lexus. Its biggest recall occurred in December last year. Because the internal components of the engine exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR valve) may be corroded by the high concentration of chlorine in the fuel, resulting in the poor actuation of the valve body, Toyota China, FAW Toyota, GAC Toyota and Sichuan FAW Fengtian launched a recall of more than 898000 vehicles.

Tesla, which has repeatedly set new delivery records, launched six recalls in China last year, with a total recall of more than 543000 vehicles, ranking fourth. Tesla has launched several recall campaigns in China and the United States due to common problems such as insufficient strength of the front and rear steering knuckles and locking of the front spare case. In recent years, Volkswagen (including Lamborghini and Bentley), which has been criticized by users for problems such as collision door and GPF particle catcher blockage, recalled 244000 vehicles in China in 2021.

Among the new car manufacturers, Xiaopeng also launched a recall in 2021. In January 2021, Xiaopeng automobile recalled 13399 G3 vehicles because the tinned terminal connecting the copper bar screw on the DC bus capacitor of the inverter may cause a short circuit between the positive and negative poles of high-voltage DC due to tin whiskers, the vehicle may not be started again when it is stopped, and the vehicle may lose power when it is running.

In addition, Korean brands whose sales have not improved in China are also on the recall list in 2021. Hyundai brand and Kia brand ranked 5th and 13th in the list with 519000 and 92000 recalls respectively. At the beginning of last year, Beijing Hyundai recalled more than 450000 vehicles due to the problem of hydraulic electronic control unit. The hidden dangers of the fault include short circuit of hydraulic electronic control unit, which may lead to engine compartment fire in serious cases. In the past few years, although modern Kia has applied advanced technologies such as cvvd and e-gmp platform, quality problems have also had a negative impact on the revival of Korean brands.
