Observation: the Centennial Shenzhen railway station joined the high-speed rail circle of friends to inject new vitality into the economy of the old urban area

“You can see everything from traditional green cars to modern high-speed trains.” Shenzhen Citizen Ms. Chen bought a high-speed rail ticket early to return to Jiangxi. She rushed to the station early in the morning of January 10, but this time she went not to Shenzhen North Station, but to Shenzhen station in Luohu District.

Since 0:00 on January 10, 2022, Guangzhou Railway Group has implemented the train diagram in the first quarter of 2022 to further optimize the train operation scheme. It is worth noting that Shenzhen railway station, which has a history of 100 years, will open high-speed rail for the first time. It is reported that Shenzhen station has opened 17 pairs of trains across Jiangxi Shenzhen high-speed railway line. Shenzhen station will introduce Jiangxi Shenzhen high-speed railway through Guangzhou Shenzhen intercity, and open trains to Wuhan, Nanchang, Nanjing, Wuyuan, Heyuan and other directions, so as to realize the first high-speed railway in a century old station.

Although Shenzhen railway station is known as the “centenary station”, the current station building was actually completed and put into operation in 1991. The two characters “Shenzhen” are embedded in the center of the arch of the East Main Building of the station. “In the 1980s, I came to Shenzhen by train from my hometown in the mainland. I took a green car. When I arrived at the railway station, I saw that there was yellow mud around. Now, there are green cars in Shenzhen station, which of course has its significance.” Recalling the past, Ms. Chen seemed very touched, “the era of high-speed rail has long begun, and Shenzhen station should keep up with the pace, which will not only facilitate the residents in the surrounding areas, but also help activate Shenzhen railway station and give better play to its potential value.”

The change of transportation hub will often have a great impact on the development of the city, and even change the development pattern of a city. Shenzhen North Railway Station was officially put into use in 2011, driving the rapid development of Longhua District. On the other hand, Luohu District, where Shenzhen railway station is located, has always been known as the “old urban area” of Shenzhen, facing the pressure of upgrading and transformation. Let Shenzhen railway station revitalize and shine. The huge passenger flow brought by the transportation hub will also drive the development of Commerce, finance, catering, tourism and other industries, resulting in huge economic benefits. As a strong traditional commerce and finance area in Shenzhen, Luohu needs to be “stimulated” as an old urban area. Moreover, revitalizing Shenzhen railway station can not only facilitate the travel of Shenzhen citizens, but also share the passenger flow pressure of Shenzhen North Station.

Previously, the national development and Reform Commission approved the construction plan of Intercity Railway in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Dawan District, and proposed that the layout of Shenzhen hub is “three main and four auxiliary” hubs dominated by Shenzhen North, Xili and Shenzhen stations, supplemented by Shenzhen East, Futian, Shenzhen Airport Co.Ltd(000089) and Shenzhen Pingshan stations. Shenzhen station still occupies an irreplaceable position.

As she lives in Renmin South area around Shenzhen railway station, Ms. Chen has deeper feelings for Shenzhen station. “If compared with Shenzhen North railway station, the current scale of Shenzhen railway station is small, but because it is a ground station, and there are bus stations, commercial cities and old communities next to it, the transformation potential is even greater. I hope the change of Shenzhen railway station can be accelerated.”

In fact, in recent years, many cities in China have tried to transform the traditional railway station in the city center into a high-speed railway station, such as Guangzhou station and Guangzhou east station, which are also located in Dawan District, and Shantou railway station in Guangdong Province. “At Shenzhen station, you can see the traditional green long-distance bus, the Guangzhou Shenzhen intercity bus with C prefix, the cross line bullet train with D prefix, and now the high-speed railway with G prefix. It can be said that it is the most diversified railway station in Shenzhen, which is also a scenery.” Ms. Chen is looking forward to the future traffic development of Shenzhen station and the whole Shenzhen.
