The largest pumped storage project in Henan plans to increase the installed capacity, which can save 250000 tons of coal consumption each year

On April 14, the reporter learned from relevant departments that the total installed capacity of Henan Lushan pumped storage power station project is to be adjusted from 1.2 million kW to 1.3 million KW. After adjustment, the project will install four 325000 kW Single-stage vertical shaft mixed flow reversible water turbine generator units. This means that as the largest pumped storage project in Henan Province, Lushan pumped storage power station has further enhanced its peak shaving capacity to the provincial power grid.

It is understood that Lushan pumped storage power station is built in liziyu village, Zhaocun Town, Lushan County, Pingdingshan City, Henan Province. The project is a key project of pumped storage power station determined in the 13th five year plan for hydropower development (20162020). It is one of the recommended stations of Pumped Storage Power Station in Henan Province in 2020 approved by the national energy administration. The total investment of the project is about 8.94 billion yuan. It is a first-class large-scale project, including upper reservoir, water transmission system The construction period of plant system and lower reservoir is 5 years from the formal commencement to the first unit power generation, with a total construction period of 6 years. After the completion of the power station, it mainly undertakes the tasks of peak shaving, valley filling, frequency modulation, phase modulation and emergency standby of Henan power grid, with both economic and environmental benefits.

According to the preliminary budget, after the power station is put into operation, it can reduce the annual average peak shaving rate of coal-fired thermal power by 2.23 percentage points and save 251000 tons of coal consumption of thermal power system, which is equivalent to reducing 626000 tons of carbon dioxide emission, 18900 tons of sulfur dioxide emission and 9500 tons of nitrogen oxide emission every year. In addition, the operation period of the power station can increase the local financial revenue by about 100 million yuan every year, increase the annual utilization hours of thermal power generation and save the coal consumption of thermal power in the system.

According to the medium and long term development plan for pumped storage (20212035), by 2025, the total scale of China’s pumped storage production will double that of the 13th five year plan, reaching more than 62 million KW; By 2030, the total scale of pumped storage put into operation will double that of the “14th five year plan”, reaching about 120million kW; By 2035, a modern pumped storage industry with advanced technology, high-quality management and strong international competitiveness will be formed to meet the high proportion and large-scale development needs of new energy, and a number of large backbone enterprises of pumped storage will be cultivated.
