They may come from the Verdi power battery production base three kilometers away. Of course, a “diaphragm” may also be produced by Hunan Zhongli New Material Co., Ltd. A greater probability is that their grandparents were taken in and transformed by Hunan Bangpu when they were still used batteries, giving birth to new life.
Lithium Valley is one of the few places in China with a complete industrial chain of energy storage materials. On April 6, the reporter came here for in-depth interview to witness the birth of a battery.
Origin: “nameless” VIP, a blockbuster
Rebirth from waste batteries is the first step in the birth of batteries. Coincidentally, Hunan Bangpu, which is mainly engaged in lithium battery recycling, joined Ningxiang high tech Zone, which is the first step taken by lithium valley.
Machinery manufacturing, textile and clothing, printing and packaging… In 2007, Ningxiang high tech Zone, with an annual output value of only a few billion, wandered among many traditional industries.
At this time, Professor Li Xinhai of Central South University came to “pull the strings” for the park: “there is an enterprise in Foshan, Guangdong Province that does lithium battery recycling and ternary precursor. It is very small, but it has a bright future.”
At that time, China’s lithium battery industry had just started. What was the prospect? can make nothing of it.
At that time, the cadres involved in investment promotion recalled: “although the volume of Bangpu is small, it has core technology and green circular economy. We think it has great prospects.”
Ningxiang high tech Zone was so bright that it decided to “compete” with Bangpu. Soon, Bangpu Recycling Technology Co., Ltd., which covers an area of more than 20 mu and has an output value of only more than 20 million yuan, became the first large-scale lithium battery material enterprise in Ningxiang high tech Zone.
Subsequently, the scale of Hunan Bangpu expanded rapidly. In June 2008, Bangpu invested 200 million yuan to build the largest waste battery recycling base in China. The expansion of production capacity exposed the problem of insufficient supporting facilities.
“At that time, there was a serious shortage of water, electricity and gas, so we couldn’t produce normally. The leaders of the park were dispatching and dealing with it every day, and finally solved the problem before it was put into operation.” The person in charge of Hunan Bangpu recalled that the park had almost nothing to do with Bangpu, who was the “only seedling” of the industry at that time, and responded to every request.
Since then, a total of five projects have been put into operation in Bangpu, which has become the largest battery recycling enterprise in Asia. At present, the construction of phase VI and VII projects is in full swing.
Bangpu took the lead in testing the water, and a number of well-known Chinese enterprises came one after another: Zhongwei new material, one of the largest suppliers of battery material precursors in China, Hunan Shanshan new energy Co., Ltd., which has many customers at home and abroad, Hunan Zhongke Xingcheng graphite Co., Ltd., which ranks among the top three of the country’s top graphite negative electrode materials… In recent years, energy storage material enterprises in Ningxiang high tech Zone have a bright star.
In 2015, Ningxiang high tech Zone proposed for the first time to build a “China (Jinzhou) lithium battery Valley” and vigorously cultivate the industry of advanced energy storage materials in order to form a new 100 billion industrial cluster in the province.
Mend the chain: win back the “Pearl” and improve the closed loop
From positive materials and negative materials to diaphragm, electrolyte, precursor, cell and waste power battery recycling… The industrial chain is linked, one link is blocked, and the upstream and downstream enterprises cannot operate.
Hunan Huaxing new energy technology Co., Ltd., which produces cylindrical lithium iron phosphate batteries, has a deep understanding of this. At the beginning of 2020, covid-19 pneumonia was spreading in Hubei. Hunan Huaxing’s cathode material supplier is located in Jingzhou, Hubei Province and cannot supply.
“Cathode materials account for 40% of the production materials. Once the supply is cut off, it can only be shut down.” Peng Peng, chairman of Hunan Huaxing, recalled that at the critical moment, the park contacted the local enterprises of lithium Valley to supply similar products in time.
Undoubtedly, a complete industrial chain has great attraction to enterprises.
How to supplement and extend the chain is a major topic that lithium valley began to answer at the beginning of its birth.
A diaphragm as thin as a cicada’s wing can not only prevent the short circuit between the positive and negative poles, but also “order” the battery to stop working in case of overheating. It is the key material in lithium battery. The thinner the diaphragm, the more space will be made available for the rest of the material to achieve longer endurance.
The diaphragm produced by Zhongli new material is only 5 microns thick, less than 1 / 30 of the diameter of Asian hair, and is in a leading position in the world. In 2016, in order to introduce China Lithium new materials with core technology into lithium power Valley, Ningxiang high tech Zone proposed to help build the plant on behalf of the enterprise, and the enterprise installed and commissioned the production line at the same time, so as to start construction and put into operation in the same year.
In 2021, China Lithium new material was rated as the third batch of “little giant” enterprises specializing in special and new products by the Ministry of industry and information technology, and Byd Company Limited(002594) , LG, ski, ATL and other top battery manufacturers at home and abroad have reached long-term strategic cooperation with them.
Today, the lithium Valley has gathered 22 upstream and downstream enterprises, and has formed the only complete industrial chain closed-loop Park in the province from “upstream materials → lithium battery cathode, cathode, diaphragm, electrolyte, packaging auxiliary materials → cell → lithium battery assembly and application → waste battery recycling”.
Growth: bravely set the tide and follow the “electricity”
The Jianghu dispute of vehicle power battery has always been constant. Lithium iron phosphate battery is rapidly seizing the market and becoming the next “tuyere”.

On the loess ground, four factories have been erected and are expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of June.
