Musk: Tesla overcharge network aims to achieve a gross profit margin of 30%

On Sunday (April 3 local time), Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that Tesla's goal for the super charging pile business is to achieve a gross profit margin of 30% or a profit margin of 10%, including all costs.

Ross Gerber, a well-known Tesla investor, asked Musk on twitter about the profitability of the super charging pile business, which made the above reply.

According to the data previously released by Tesla, the gross profit margin of the company's automobile business was 27% last year, compared with 21% in 2020. However, Tesla did not disclose the breakdown of relevant profit margins.

With the increasingly fierce competition in the field of electric vehicles, Tesla has been expanding its super charging pile business. Tesla currently operates more than 30000 super charging piles, distributed in more than 2500 locations around the world, including more than 8000 Tesla charging piles in the Chinese market alone.

Tesla is developing the overcharge network at an amazing speed. At the end of 2020, the number of super charging piles of the company was about 23277. This number is growing at an annual growth rate of more than 30%, but it lags behind the delivery speed of Tesla Motors. In the same period, the delivery of Tesla Motors increased by 87%.

The growth rate of Tesla's super charging pile business also lags behind its own goal, that is, to triple the super charging pile network within two years. Tesla plans to gradually open its charging network to electric vehicle users of other brands, which is expected to become a new source of revenue for the company.

Tesla announced its car production and delivery in the first quarter of 2022 on Saturday (April 2). Data show that Tesla delivered a record 310048 vehicles in the first quarter, higher than the 309158 expected by the market, and produced 305407 vehicles in the quarter. Tesla also announced that it would release its first quarter earnings after the closing of U.S. stocks on April 20 Eastern time.
