The tender green seedlings are being transplanted into the substrate in an orderly manner, and the greenhouse is full of green and vibrant.
“Now is the good season for spring ploughing. We have started the first round of seedling transplanting this year since the beginning of March.” Chen Xiaofeng, project manager of the original seed breeding Department of Gansu Dayou Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd., said that as the main seed potato production base in Yuzhong County, the company will carry out two rounds of seedling transplanting this year, and nearly 20000 square meters have been completed. The annual plan is to transplant 56000 square meters of seedlings and complete the production of 50 million original seeds.
In recent years, Yuzhong County has made every effort to build a potato seed potato breeding system and establish a seed potato production base of “breeding in the north and planting in the South”. We have actively promoted the construction of green, standardized and large-scale continuous planting bases in gancaodian Town, qingshuiyi Township, Gaoya Town, Xiaokang Ying Township, Longquan Township, Gongjing town and other townships. At the same time, the introduction, demonstration and promotion of new varieties were carried out to continuously improve the promotion rate of New Potato Varieties with high yield, disease resistance, good potato type and good taste in the county.
“After professional cultivation such as virus-free and inter stem peeling in our laboratory, the original seeds transplanted and cultivated not only greatly improve the disease resistance of potato, but also increase the potato yield by more than 40%, which provides a good guarantee for the cultivation of potato in the whole county.” Chen Xiaofeng introduced.

At the same time, Yuzhong county gives play to the demonstration and driving role of potato planting cooperatives and Agricultural Machinery Cooperatives, actively guides farmers to join cooperatives, jointly build centralized continuous planting bases, carry out mechanized operation and UAV unified prevention and control, reduce farmers’ operation costs and increase income.
It is reported that in 2021 alone, Yuzhong County has a potato planting area of 160000 mu, with a fresh potato output of more than 230000 tons and an output value of 500 million yuan. It produces 42 million seeds of original seeds, 7400 mu of original seeds, with an output of more than 14000 tons, and 12500 mu of first-class seeds, with an output of more than 25000 tons. 121000 ton storage warehouses and 6 500 ton storage warehouses have been built, with a storage capacity of more than 10000 tons of fresh potatoes and more than 5000 tons of seed potatoes. In 2022, it is planned to promote the planting of 170000 mu of potatoes, produce 45 million original seeds, 8000 mu of original fields and 15000 mu of primary seed fields.
