As a major producer and consumer of household appliances in the world, China has a huge number of waste household appliances. According to Liu Xiumin, chairman of the presidium of the Council of China household appliance service and maintenance association, the scrapping volume of major electrical and electronic products in China is nearly 200 million sets every year.
In terms of waste household appliances, in the face of such a large number, recycling is a big problem. According to pan Yonggang, vice president and Secretary General of China Renewable Resources Recycling Association, at present, most waste household appliances are taken away by small vendors, which is difficult to get formal environmental protection treatment.
“They either enter the second-hand market after renovation or are disassembled irregularly, which will not only bring great potential safety hazards to consumers, but also cause a waste of resources. The toxic and harmful substances such as lead, mercury and cadmium contained in household appliances are more likely to pose a great threat to the environment and human health.” Pan Yonggang said.
On March 28, the 21st Century Business Herald reporter learned from Midea Group Co.Ltd(000333) ( Midea Group Co.Ltd(000333) . SZ) that Midea will provide “green recycling + renewal subsidy” service for four types of household electrical products, including air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines and televisions. The group will build a digital green recycling platform based on Meiyun sales, Midea home, Midea home, Midea service and Midea members.
When users need to replace new household appliances, they can put forward the demand for recycling the old machine online, and the digital console will give corresponding deduction after evaluating the old machine. After purchasing new products, the staff will come to the door to send new and old products to users. The old machines pulled away are sorted and then sent to the green disassembly enterprise authorized by the state for standardized disassembly, and the whole recycling process can be traced.
Last October, Midea released its green strategy for the first time, proposing to build a full process green industrial chain around the six pillars of “green design, green procurement, green manufacturing, green logistics, green recycling and green service” with the goal of “achieving carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutralization by 2060”.
The green recycling action launched this time is a landing measure of Midea’s green strategy. The industry believes that it is expected to further improve the recycling system of waste household appliances, promote the standardized recycling of waste household appliances, greatly increase the number of waste household appliances, and make the sales channels of waste household appliances more convenient and smooth, which is expected to bring new support to the renewal and consumption of household appliances.
