cultivate talents to meet the requirements of intelligent society
As an important driving force of the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial revolution, artificial intelligence is profoundly changing people’s way of life, work, education and learning. In recent years, artificial intelligence technology is more and more applied in all links of teaching management, and artificial intelligence course has gradually become one of the important teaching contents in primary and secondary schools.
Ren Changshan, director of the informatization department of the science and Technology Department of the Ministry of education, pointed out that in recent years, great progress has been made in the demonstration and application of artificial intelligence in the field of education, and artificial intelligence education is entering a new stage of development. The release of “standard” and “blue book” is of great significance to outline the current situation of artificial intelligence education and guide the practice of artificial intelligence education. It is hoped that research institutions and experts can adhere to the principle of demand traction, application as king and service first, widely carry out theoretical research and practical exploration related to artificial intelligence education, and promote the high-quality development of education in the context of the digital age.
At present, the integration of artificial intelligence, 5g, big data and education has accelerated, promoting the rapid evolution of educational informatization to educational digitization. Lei Mingyu, director of the Institute of technology and standards of China Academy of information and communications and Secretary General of the Smart Education Working Committee of China Internet association, combined with the work being carried out by the Academy of information and communications, put forward three prospects for the development of smart education represented by artificial intelligence: first, improve quality and efficiency, and actively make good use of network infrastructure; Second, demonstrate and lead to cultivate typical applications of the integration of new generation information and communication technology with education and teaching innovation; Third, pay attention to communication, jointly tap the scenes and needs of wisdom education, and promote the development of new models and formats.
Wu Di, vice president of future education special committee of China Education Development Strategy society, affirmed the standard. He pointed out that China had long lacked unified standards for the abilities and standards of AI teachers. “The standard issued this time has a high standing, strong systematicness and good practicality. It provides a very important reference for promoting the construction of artificial intelligence team in primary and secondary schools, and is conducive to solving the problem of lack of ability teaching of artificial intelligence teachers.”
AI education or an important supplement to “after-school service”
In order to implement China’s educational modernization 2035 and better understand the current situation of artificial intelligence curriculum teaching and technology empowerment education in primary and secondary schools in China, Tencent education and Tencent Research Institute, together with China Academy of Educational Sciences and East China Normal University, conducted a questionnaire survey on 160000 students, more than 20000 teachers and more than 1000 principals in 25 provinces and cities in China for half a year, and compiled the blue book on this basis. At the press conference, Professor Gu Xiaoqing of East China Normal University made a detailed interpretation of the blue book.
The blue book pointed out that the overall situation of the information hardware equipment of the surveyed schools is good, but the relevant software system is still lacking. More than half of the surveyed schools have opened or are preparing artificial intelligence education and teaching activities. With the implementation of the “double reduction” policy, AI education is becoming an important part of multi local education authorities and schools to enrich the “three and a half after class” service, especially in the central region. More than 85% of schools consider introducing AI education into after-school service.
Teachers generally recognize the value of artificial intelligence teaching tools. Students are generally willing to use artificial intelligence learning tools and hope to get personalized evaluation and guidance. At the same time, for learning forms, extracurricular activities, competitions and other diversified teaching methods are most popular with students.
The survey found that at present, artificial intelligence courses in primary and secondary schools in China are mainly concentrated in one class a week. Insufficient funds, lack of professional teachers and lack of technical support are the main factors hindering the establishment of courses. The number of teachers participating in the teaching activities of artificial intelligence related courses in primary and secondary schools is small, and there are few teachers specializing in artificial intelligence courses. Among the teachers of artificial intelligence courses, only about 30% have received training in relevant courses of artificial intelligence teaching in the stage of higher education.
Looking at the development status and main problems of AI education, the blue book suggests that we can focus on the following aspects: first, build a fair and quality AI education ecosystem; Second, improve teachers’ ability to apply AI educational technology; Third, promote the reform of school education evaluation and improve the student evaluation mechanism.
provide basis for AI teacher training and evaluation
Based on the research results of the blue book, the expert group pointed out that the cultivation of teachers’ ability and the establishment of evaluation system are one of the urgent problems to be solved in the implementation of artificial intelligence education in primary and secondary schools.
In this context, the Chinese Academy of Educational Sciences and Tencent education jointly launched the standard. With reference to relevant policies and standard documents at home and abroad, and in combination with the actual development of artificial intelligence education in China, 18 basic skill requirements are put forward from the six dimensions of artificial intelligence understanding and awareness, basic knowledge, basic skills, problem solving, teaching practice, ethics and safety, so as to provide reference basis for the training and evaluation of artificial intelligence teachers in primary and secondary schools.
Wang Su, director of the future school laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Educational Sciences, made a detailed interpretation of the standard. She pointed out that the standard specifies the skills that AI teachers should have. She hopes that the formulation of this standard can become a guide for the professional development of AI teachers in the future, and can also be used as a standard for the training and evaluation of AI teachers.
As the co-founder of the standard, Wang Tao, vice president of Tencent education, said that the future is the era of artificial intelligence. Tencent education has been exploring the popularization of artificial intelligence among young people. Tencent education will continue to strengthen cooperation with academic research institutions, promote the integration of artificial intelligence and education and teaching, promote the implementation of norms and standards, develop artificial intelligence education with temperature, help more artificial intelligence teachers improve their professional ability, and help more young people grow into innovative talents for the future.
promote AI education and improve students’ literacy
In fact, at present, there are many regions and schools in China that have taken the lead in artificial intelligence education for teenagers: in March this year, Wenzhou fully incorporated artificial intelligence education into the curriculum system of primary and secondary schools. At the press conference, Zhu Jinggao, deputy director of Wenzhou Education Bureau, was invited to share Wenzhou’s experience and achievements in promoting artificial intelligence education in primary and secondary schools.
According to Zhu Jinggao, Wenzhou takes the “five ones” project as the starting point, and promotes the construction of artificial intelligence infrastructure and demonstration leading projects by building a regional artificial intelligence education platform, three “three” systems (three-level artificial intelligence curriculum system, “ten hundred thousand” three-level artificial intelligence teacher training system, “school teachers and students” three-dimensional AI literacy evaluation system), so as to create a “five in one” artificial intelligence education ecosystem.
At present, the construction of Wenzhou artificial intelligence cloud platform has been basically completed, and Tencent artificial intelligence education platform has been introduced to customize and develop the city’s artificial intelligence management system and promote its use in the whole region. 188 schools in the city have carried out the pilot construction of artificial intelligence education, and Wuxi Online Offline Communication Information Technology Co.Ltd(300959) completed the training of more than 2000 teachers in artificial intelligence theory, technical practice, project-based design and other contents. Next, Wenzhou will also issue the joint training plan for young people’s AI innovative talents and hold youth AI dream chasing camp activities.
It is worth noting that Tencent education participated in the research and preparation as a co producer when publishing the standard and the blue book. In recent years, relying on its Tencent Zhiqi AI education team, Tencent education has sent AI education resources to thousands of primary and secondary school campuses. At the same time, many AI themed activities and competitions are held nationwide to stimulate the interest of teachers and students in scientific learning.
Wu Pengyang, director of the smart industry research center of Tencent Research Institute, said that in the process of artificial intelligence education practice, Tencent has formed 1, 2 and 3 systems under the guidance of relevant national standards: one core standard, which transforms the national information technology curriculum standard into four hierarchical and progressive teaching standards of AI perception, cognition, experience and creation; Two situational platforms, including programming platform and experimental platform, combine AI course with five courses of moral, intellectual, physical, artistic and labor education to create a college course of quality education based on AI; Three dimensional multiple evaluation, including in class, after class and out of school, enables the evaluation to more comprehensively reflect the teaching effect. “In the future, Tencent will cooperate with academic research institutions, work with front-line education bureaus and schools, take promoting the all-round development of students in the AI era as the goal, and build a one-stop AI education program for primary and secondary schools around teaching materials, courses, teacher training, events and activities, so that schools have a grasp, teachers have the ability and students have the growth.”
During the press conference, many experts and scholars from Peking University, East China Normal University, Haidian Institute of Educational Sciences and other institutions also participated in the theme discussion one after another to contribute wisdom to promoting the popularization of artificial intelligence among young people.
