New equipment developed by China to speed up oil drilling

Recently, the “Shengli Tiangong” oscillating screw independently developed by China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation(600028) Shengli Petroleum Engineering Company has been successfully applied in gao94-xie16 well in Shengli work area, Shandong Province and Miquan 2 well in Northwest work area, with obvious effect of increasing speed and reducing resistance, adding new tools to the “four lifting and one lowering” of oil exploration and development.

Screw is a downhole power drilling tool that takes drilling fluid as power and converts liquid pressure energy into mechanical energy. Compared with the conventional screw, the above oscillating screw increases the pressure pulse device. Through reasonable matching, it not only has the function of the conventional screw, but also can produce axial oscillation, and has the dual effects of improving the rock breaking efficiency of the bit and relieving the supporting pressure.

In early March, Shengli Petroleum Engineering Company applied “Shengli Tiangong” oscillating screw for the first time in gao94-xie16 well in Shengli work area, with a footage of 2649m and an average ROP of 24.53m per hour. Compared with gao94-xie12 well in the same well, the ROP increased by 44.98%. One week later, in Miquan 2 well in Northwest work area, “Shengli Tiangong” oscillating screw was applied to the 3032.7-3355m well section of the well. The total time of entering the well was 13 days and the circulation time was 237 hours. The drilling tool withstood the strict downhole environmental test, and its reliability and stability were further tested.

According to the reporter, compared with the conventional screw, the new oscillating screw has obvious speed-up effect when the pressure drop is only increased by 1 MPa. The drilling tool vibrates near the bit. Even if the supporting pressure is serious, there is a small amount of power to work, which can effectively alleviate the supporting pressure. At the same time, thanks to the special design structure, the impact force is controlled below the top of the screw and will not damage the directional instrument.
