At the end of 2021, the “2021 blue book on brand value of Chinese listed companies”, jointly produced by the daily economic news and the China Enterprise Research Center of the school of economics and management of Tsinghua University, was officially published and released. The 2021 general list of brand value of Chinese listed companies, industry lists and regional lists were also unveiled.

Among the 3000 enterprises listed in the brand value list of Chinese Listed Companies in 2021, there were 62 agricultural enterprises, an increase of 8 over 2020; The brand value totaled 262472 billion yuan, an increase of 40.1% over 2020.

There are 6 companies listed on the Shenzhen main board, with a total brand value of 40.118 billion yuan, accounting for 15.3% of the total brand value on the industry list, ranking third.

On the surface, the adverse growth of brand value of listed agricultural companies is largely due to the growth of balanced financial income during the epidemic, which is also inseparable from the policy support of governments at all levels. In the annual reports disclosed by several listed agricultural companies, we can see that the supporting effect of the policy has significantly improved the financial situation of enterprises. In particular, the documents related to “accelerating the resumption of pig production” have significantly increased the brand value of listed companies mainly engaged in pig production. For example, the growth rate of Muyuan Foods Co.Ltd(002714) is as high as 328.1%.

However, what we should see more is that the fundamental reason for the growth against the trend is that the brand value of China’s agricultural listed companies carries the important task of China’s agricultural development.

Agriculture is a basic industry that provides support for the construction and development of the national economy. Although the proportion of agriculture in China’s industrial structure has been declining, its importance has not decreased. Both national food security and rural poverty alleviation are closely related to the development of agriculture.

Agricultural listed companies have the advantages of scale and technology, so they have become the explorers of China’s modern agricultural production mode. Their brand value represents the strength of their agricultural production to some extent, including the degree of standardization and output scale.

It is worth noting that most of the top enterprises on the list are private enterprises. In a sense, the brand value list of agricultural listed companies reflects the great contribution of private enterprises to agricultural development.

From the classification of three-level industries, the brand value of Listed Companies in aquaculture industry is much higher than that of Shenzhen Agricultural Products Group Co.Ltd(000061) processing industry, planting industry and fishery, and the concentration is also higher than that of Listed Companies in these industries.
