According to the latest statistics released by the Taiwan Stock Exchange recently, the number of accounts opened by Taiwan stocks hit a new high of 12 million at the end of December 2021. In the 10 months from March 2021 to the end of the year, the number of new accounts has increased by more than 550000, including nearly 400000 young people aged 20 to 40, accounting for more than 72%.
Jian Lizhong, general manager of the Taiwan Stock Exchange, pointed out that the number of transactions in Taiwan’s stock market exceeded 5.4 million, the highest over the years. From the analysis of the number of accounts opened, the total number of accounts opened in the centralized market has increased from 10.57 million by the end of 2019 to 12 million by December 2021; Among them, the number of people aged 20 to 30 increased from about 1 million to 1476700, an increase of more than 40%, and the investor structure tends to be younger.
He analyzed that as investors become younger, high-priced stocks form an alternative investment threshold for small capitalists. The Stock Exchange opened regular quota business in early 2017, increased small investment channels, and implemented the intraday zero share system at the end of October 2021. Small capitalists can adopt investment strategies such as decentralized investment and batch investment to invest in Taiwan stocks steadily. Since its implementation, the daily average of zero shares has increased from 200 million yuan (New Taiwan dollars, the same below) to more than 1.9 billion yuan. Due to the convenience of trading zero shares in the regular quota business, the monthly transaction value increased from about 1.7 billion yuan before the implementation to about 4 billion yuan, an increase of more than 1.3 times.
All the prices of Taiwan stocks are the price of one share, and most of them are traded in one piece (i.e. 1000 shares) in the Taiwan stock market. If you want to buy one, it will cost hundreds of thousands of yuan or even millions of yuan. The zero share system buys 1 to 999 shares.
