The gas supply from Tarim Oilfield to the West and East exceeded 300 billion cubic meters, benefiting 400 million people downstream

As of March 14, Tarim Oilfield has supplied more than 300 billion cubic meters of gas to central and eastern China through the modern energy “Silk Road” of West to east gas transmission, which is equivalent to 1.5 times the total national natural gas production in 2021. Especially during the supply period from last winter to this spring, the daily natural gas output of Tarim Oilfield reached a new high, maintained at a high level of 100 million cubic meters, and the gas supply to the West and East exceeded 24.9 billion cubic meters throughout the year, fulfilling the promise of “warm winter” for the people along the line.

It is estimated that the 300 billion cubic meters of natural gas produced and transported by Tarim Oilfield is equivalent to replacing 400 million tons of standard coal and reducing 426 million tons of carbon dioxide, benefiting about 400 million residents in 15 provinces, regions and cities such as Beijing and Shanghai and more than 120 large and medium-sized cities. The west to east gas transmission has promoted the optimization and adjustment of energy and industrial structure in eastern China, especially in the Yangtze River Delta, boosted the development of relevant industries and the upgrading of regional economy, and created huge social, economic and ecological environmental benefits.

In September 1998, Kela-2 well in Tarim Oilfield was tested to obtain high-yield natural gas flow, which marked the birth of Kela-2 gas field, the largest high-quality packaged gas field in China at that time, and directly contributed to the construction of West to east gas transmission project, a landmark project of western development. On October 1, 2004, the west to east gas transmission project was completed and put into operation, and the energy artery across the East and west of the country was born, pushing China into the “natural gas era”.

Over the past 18 years since the west to east gas transmission project was put into operation, Tarim Oilfield has always taken the protection of national energy security and stable gas supply as the primary political task, promoted natural gas as a growth, strategic and value engineering plan, constantly advanced to ultra-deep and complex fields, challenged world-class exploration and development problems such as ultra-deep, ultra-high temperature and ultra-high pressure, and made every effort to improve the capacity of natural gas supply. In recent years, four major breakthroughs and 36 new oil and gas discoveries have been made in Bozi 9 and Mid Autumn Festival 1, abundant oil and gas resources have been found in the ultra-deep layer of 8000 meters underground, two trillion cubic meter atmospheric areas of Kela Keshen and Bozi Dabei have been implemented, and 19 large and medium-sized gas fields including Keshen 9 gas field with the deepest onshore pressure in China and Keshen 13 gas field with the highest onshore pressure in China have been successfully developed, It has become one of the three major gas zones in China. In 2021, the output equivalent of oil and gas reached 31.82 million tons, including 31.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas, an increase of more than one million tons for five consecutive years.

While fully ensuring the west to east gas transmission, Tarim Oilfield has accelerated the “west to west gas utilization”, transformed resource advantages into economic advantages, driven the economic and social development of Xinjiang, especially southern Xinjiang, and promoted national unity and border construction. Based on the Petrochina Company Limited(601857) Yuanjiang No.1 Project – Nanjiang natural gas benefiting the people project pipe network, Tarim Oilfield continues to expand the scale of gas supply to the five prefectures in southern Xinjiang. Up to now, the gas supply pipe network has been extended to 3035km, covering 42 counties, cities, agriculture and animal husbandry regiments in the five prefectures in southern Xinjiang, with a cumulative gas supply of more than 46.3 billion cubic meters, and more than 5.2 billion cubic meters in 2021 alone, The “8 million people around Tarim Basin” have stepped into the “era of natural gas”.

At present, Tarim Oilfield is speeding up risk exploration in new areas, promoting the pace of production capacity construction in Bozi Dabei, Fuman and other oil and gas rich areas, striving to make another batch of strategic and overall discoveries and breakthroughs, and build China’s largest ultra deep oil and gas production base, so as to ensure national energy security and energy rice bowl We will continue to contribute to building a beautiful China.
