General Administration of Customs: 55 batches of cross-border e-commerce imported consumer goods do not meet China’s quality safety requirements

China news, Jingwei, January 2 – according to the wechat news “released by the customs” on the 2nd, recently, the General Administration of Customs organized 19 customs directly under the General Administration of Customs to carry out the quality and safety risk monitoring of cross-border e-commerce imported consumer goods in 2021, including 13 categories of cross-border E-commerce imported consumer goods such as toothbrushes, clothing, baby products and household appliances. A total of 562 batches were sampled for this monitoring, and 55 batches did not meet the quality and safety requirements in Chinese product standards, and the risk discovery rate was 9.79%.

After risk assessment, the quality and safety risk level of batch 11 is high risk or medium high risk . The main risk items include the grinding, specification and size of toothbrush, the tensile strength of rope and accessories of baby clothes, the sharp edge and tip of cart, the thickness and instructions of small parts and plastic bags of toys, the particulate matter filtration efficiency, breaking strength and appearance quality of children’s masks, the anti electric shock protection of hair dryer, plugs, power cord, signs, etc.

The General Administration of Customs said that it has urged relevant cross-border e-commerce enterprises to take risk reduction measures such as off shelf, technical rectification, return or destruction of consumer goods with quality and safety risks in accordance with laws and regulations.

The General Administration of Customs said that in recent years, in view of the rapid development of cross-border e-commerce, the Customs has earnestly performed its duties, established cross-border e-commerce import and export commodity quality and safety risk monitoring points and assessment centers, strengthened risk monitoring, assessment, disposal and application of results, effectively protected consumers’ rights and interests and promoted the healthy and orderly development of cross-border e-commerce. Here, the customs reminds consumers to pay “three concerns” when purchasing consumer goods through cross-border e-commerce:

First, attention sign description . The signs and descriptions of imported consumer goods from cross-border e-commerce generally do not use Chinese. Before purchase or use, it is recommended to learn the prompt information in detail through the sales page to avoid health injury due to improper use and other reasons.

Second, focus on key projects . For example, when purchasing a toothbrush, it is recommended to choose a toothbrush with soft bristles and round shape of the top and head of the bristles; When purchasing baby clothes, it is recommended to choose light color and cordless belt, and check whether the buttons and decorative accessories are firm; When purchasing toys and carts, it is recommended to pay attention to small parts, gaps and sharp edges; When purchasing household appliances, it is recommended to pay attention to the working voltage and plug type, and provide transformers and conversion plugs when necessary.

Third, pay attention to after-sales guarantee . It is suggested that when purchasing imported consumer goods from cross-border e-commerce, consumers should fully understand the relevant provisions on after-sales service of cross-border e-commerce platform to avoid unnecessary losses.
