CIMC Enrico cooperates with Maersk to prepare green methanol from biomass on a large scale to make the container ship “green”

CIMC Enrico recently announced the establishment of a strategic partnership with A.P. Muller Maersk, a global container shipping and logistics giant. The two sides will rely on the key equipment and core technology of CIMC Enrico to realize the industrial demonstration of biomass to green methanol and help Maersk’s first generation of new green container ships sail clean. The two sides have signed a memorandum of understanding on this cooperation cloud, and will explore and establish a long-term and close cooperative relationship in the field of clean energy based on the green methanol project in the future.

Zhongji Enrico contributes key equipment and core process, and the carbon conversion rate in the preparation process is up to 99.5%

According to the memorandum of understanding, CIMC Enrico will rely on its own key equipment and core technology to help Maersk container ship green methanol fuel transformation through scientific and technological innovation and green solutions. The phase I project is a strategic demonstration project involving 50000 tons of biomass green methanol. The capacity of phase II project depends on the development, and the annual output of green methanol is expected to increase to 200000 tons.

China is the largest methanol market in the world. According to the petrochemical and chemical industry development plan (20162020) issued by the Ministry of industry and information technology, China’s traditional methanol chemical market is about 50 million tons / year, with an annual growth rate of about 8.8%.

It is understood that CIMC Enrico plans to use high rate circulating fluidized bed biomass high-efficiency gasification technology to produce green methanol, and then synthesize methanol through biomass gasification and water vapor conversion. This technology has strong adaptability to raw materials, extremely low pollutant emission, and the carbon conversion rate is as high as 99.5%, without tar generation.

Zhongji Enrico’s first large-scale green methanol preparation project has achieved a leap forward breakthrough in the renewable energy industry

Yang Xiaohu, executive director and general manager of CIMC Enrico, said: “At present, the global green methanol is still in the early stage of development. Under the background of double carbon, the development potential of China’s green methanol industry is huge. CIMC Enrico promotes the safer, more economical and wider application of clean energy with scientific and technological progress and product innovation. Around these directions, green methanol, as an extension of the hydrogen energy industry chain, has good market prospects.”

Yang Xiaohu introduced that prior to this, CIMC Enrico had been involved in the fields of liquid sunshine (green hydrogen plus carbon dioxide to produce green methanol) and hydrogen production in liquid sunshine station, and carried out the demonstration project of liquid sunshine hydrogenation station of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Committee. He said: “this cooperation with Maersk is the first large-scale demonstration project of green methanol strategy implemented by CIMC Enrico, and it is also a great leap forward breakthrough of CIMC Enrico in the renewable and clean energy industry.”

green methanol “intermediate production” helps Maersk move towards carbon neutralization

Maersk, the partner of CIMC Enrico, is a comprehensive container shipping logistics enterprise engaged in container transportation, logistics, terminal operation and other businesses. It is headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark and has offices in more than 130 countries around the world. As the world’s leading shipping logistics enterprise, Maersk has continuously accelerated the all-round decarbonization process of shipping, air transportation, wharf and landside transportation, and announced the ordering of 12 large green methanol container ships.

Yan Ci, chief representative of Maersk Group in China, said: “Achieving the goal of decarbonization is the strategic focus of Maersk. Maersk has set the ambitious goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2040. In the next decade, ensuring the large-scale supply of green methanol is very important for our transition to sustainable energy. Maersk is very pleased to join hands with its powerful Chinese partner Zhongji Ruike to move towards the transformation of green and clean fuels Cheng. “

Yang Xiaohu said: “Over the past two decades, the parent company China International Marine Containers (Group) Co.Ltd(000039) and Maersk of CIMC Enrico have been cooperating very closely. We are very happy to cooperate with Maersk in new fields this time. More than 130 countries and regions around the world have made commitments to zero carbon or carbon neutral climate, and low-carbon development is the only way for global transformation and growth. As a leading enterprise in intelligent manufacturing of clean energy equipment, With rich experience and advanced technology, CIMC Enrico focuses on innovative technology and green solutions, and has always been committed to making energy cleaner, environment sustainable and life better. This cooperation will not only help Maersk move towards carbon neutrality, but also make common contributions to achieving more environmentally friendly and sustainable future development. “
