At present, to solve the problem of thermal runaway of power battery, the industry mainly starts from three aspects: intrinsic safety (thermal safety and thermal design of single battery), passive safety (thermal spread and thermal management of battery module) and active safety (thermal management and thermal control of battery system). Intrinsic safety is to start with the thermal runaway mechanism of single battery and solve it from the perspective of material layer design and manufacturing. Wang Fengying said that in 2021, a number of car companies launched relevant safety technologies in the direction of thermal runaway protection of power batteries. However, due to the lack of understanding in the industry, the promotion and application of new technologies is less than expected. In particular, it is worth noting that users who have purchased cars before the emergence of relevant power battery thermal runaway protection technology can not enjoy the protection of these cutting-edge safety technologies.
In the future, the automobile industry is expected to make a comprehensive transformation from traditional fuel vehicles to electrification. In this process, “new energy vehicle safety” has touched the bottom line of consumers, manufacturers and social managers. It is urgent to solve the problem of power battery thermal runaway.
Therefore, Wang Fengying suggested: first, carry out top-level planning at the national level to promote the application of thermal runaway protection technology of power battery and make it a necessary configuration for the delivery of new energy vehicles; Second, gradually improve the thermal runaway protection technology of standard power battery of stock new energy vehicles. For example, replace the power batteries matching the thermal runaway protection technology for the existing stock models in batches, and establish an exit mechanism for the old new energy vehicles to ensure that all new energy models on the market are included in the thermal runaway protection technology protection system of power batteries.
