On December 30, the first batch of units (No. 1 and No. 10) of Hebei Fengning pumped storage power station, the world’s largest pumped storage power station designed and constructed by Power Construction Corporation Of China Ltd(Powerchina Ltd)(601669) , was officially put into operation for power generation. This will guarantee the 100% green power supply for the first time in the history of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
As a key green energy project supporting the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, Fengning pumped storage power station is equipped with 12 generator sets with a single unit capacity of 300000 kW and a total installed capacity of 3.6 million KW. It is developed in two phases and constructed in the same period. Phase I and phase II are 1.8 million kW respectively. It is known as the world’s largest “charging treasure” and “Encyclopedia” in the field of pumped storage power stations. The successful construction of the power station has created four “firsts” in the world: the installed capacity is the first in the world, with a total installed capacity of 3.6 million KW, which is the largest pumped storage power station in the world; The energy storage capacity ranks first in the world, and the utilization hours of 12 units reach 10.8 hours. It is the only pumped storage power station with weekly regulation performance in North China; The scale of underground powerhouse ranks first in the world, with a total length of 414m, a height of 54.5m and a span of 25m. It is the largest pumped storage underground powerhouse; The scale of underground cavern group ranks first in the world. There are 190 underground caverns in Fengning power station, with a total length of 50.14 km, and the scale of underground engineering is huge.
It is reported that Fengning pumped storage power station is expected to be fully put into operation in 2024. It can absorb 8.7 billion kwh of excess electric energy and 6.288 billion kwh of annual power generation every year, which can meet the power consumption of 2.6 million households a year, save 480000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon emissions by 1.2 million tons, equivalent to more than 240000 mu of afforestation. As the main regulating power supply of Beijing Tianjin Hebei Power Grid, the power station has “six functions” such as peak shaving, frequency modulation, phase modulation, energy storage, system standby and black start, and is known as the “golden key” to support the energy and power transformation of Beijing Tianjin Hebei. The construction of the power station is of great significance to ensure the safety of the power grid, promote the consumption of new energy, promote the ecological environment protection of the capital economic circle, and help achieve the goal of “carbon peak and carbon neutralization”.
