On March 1, 2022, unit 4 of changlongshan pumped storage power station in Anji County, Zhejiang Province entered the power generation condition from the shutdown condition.
The total weight of unit 4 exceeds 2100 tons. The behemoth can generate 11.6 degrees of electricity per revolution, 8.33 revolutions per second and 96.6 degrees of electricity.
Changlongshan pumped storage power station is located in the load center of East China power grid, with a total installed capacity of 2.1 million KW. After all units are put into operation, the annual average power generation capacity can reach 2.435 billion kwh.
However, the value of this project is not limited to considerable power generation. The water level difference is also used, but the pumped storage power station is different from the hydropower station that can only generate electricity. As a form of physical energy storage, the pumped storage power station releases the water from the upper reservoir for power generation and transmission during the peak period of power consumption, while in the low period of power consumption, it uses the surplus electricity on the power grid to pump the water from the lower reservoir into the upper reservoir.
According to China Renewable Energy Development Report 2020, by the end of 2020, 31.49 million kilowatts of pumped storage power stations had been built and 53.73 million kilowatts were under construction in China, with the development scale ranking first in the world.
According to the installed capacity, Zhejiang's photovoltaic power generation has become the second largest power supply after thermal power. However, it is located in a humid area in the south. Around the Spring Festival in 2022, it lasts for more than a month. Anji is full of cloudy, rainy, ice and snow weather and insufficient light, resulting in extremely unstable photovoltaic power generation.
Depending on the weather, it is unstable. Such new energy also includes wind power. When the wind speed is less than 3 meters per second, the wind turbine will stop running.
By the end of 2021, China's installed capacity of wind power grid connection has exceeded 300 million KW, ranking first in the world for 12 consecutive years. By 2030, China's total installed capacity of wind power and Cecep Solar Energy Co.Ltd(000591) power generation will reach more than 1.2 billion kilowatts. However, due to the intermittent and volatile output of new energy, large-scale access is undoubtedly a great test for the power grid in pursuit of stable and sustainable power supply.
When the proportion of unstable power sources such as scenery is too high and the power grid cannot be absorbed, the safe and stable power supply of the power grid is impacted. As the largest pumped storage power station in East China, the changlongshan project is expected to save 210000 tons of standard coal for East China Power Grid every year, and reduce the emission of about 420000 tons of carbon dioxide and 2800 tons of sulfur dioxide every year.
Three kilometers away from changlongshan pumped storage power station, there stands the first pumped storage power station in East China - Tianhuangping Pumped Storage Power Station. It was built in 2000. At that time, it ranked first in Asia and second in the world with a total installed capacity of 1.8 million KW.
The two pumped storage power stations echo each other from afar, with a total installed capacity of 3.9 million KW. They are known as the "twin stars" shining in East China, making Anji county the largest pumped storage base in the world.
When Tianhuangping hydropower station was put into operation, the main equipment was imported from abroad, while four of the six units in changlongshan hydropower station were made in China. At the same time, the project also set three world records.
On the morning of December 9, 2021, the rotor of unit 5 of changlongshan pumped storage power station smoothly fell into the pit. So far, the stator and rotor of the world's first 600 rpm and 350 MW pumped storage unit have been officially integrated and entered the final assembly stage.
