According to the Research Report on “economic contribution of China’s copyright industry in 2019” released by the national copyright administration, the added value of China’s copyright industry accounted for 7.39% of China’s GDP in 2019. Among them, the core copyright industry accounts for 63% of the national copyright industry, and the development level of Shanghai’s copyright industry has always been in the leading position in the country. According to the copyright industry in the U.S. economy (2020 annual report) recently released by the United States, the industry added value of the U.S. copyright industry accounted for 11.99% of the U.S. GDP in 2019; Among them, the added value of the core copyright industry accounts for 7.26% of the GDP of the United States. The proportion of added value of copyright industry and core copyright industry in GDP in Shanghai is closer to this level than that of national copyright industry, and the growth rate of added value has also reached twice that of the United States.

From 2019 to 2020, the industrial added value of Shanghai’s copyright industry reached 358.997 billion yuan, an increase of 27.331 billion yuan over the previous year, accounting for 9.45% of Shanghai’s GDP in that year, and the actual growth rate was 8.84%. Among them, the industrial added value of the core copyright industry was 264.112 billion yuan, an increase of 18.134 billion yuan over the previous year, accounting for 6.95% of Shanghai’s GDP that year, with an actual growth rate of 8.08%. The economic contribution rate of Shanghai’s copyright industry to GDP reached 13.93%. The added value of copyright industry accounts for a high proportion of GDP, reflecting the effectiveness of intellectual property protection for a long time. Without intellectual property protection, the development of copyright industry cannot be guaranteed.
