The 70 MPa skid mounted fully integrated hydrogen refueling station equipment put into use for the first time in the Winter Olympic Games and winter Paralympic Games has achieved a number of technological breakthroughs.

It is reported that the 70 MPa skid mounted fully integrated hydrogenation station equipment is China’s first fully integrated hydrogenation device with multiple functions such as gas collection and unloading, pressurization, control and AI intelligent monitoring system; It is the first 70MPa filling system meeting the T40 level in SAE j2601 filling protocol and an integrated efficient and convenient hydrogenation device equipped with infrared data communication function; It is the first multi gas source skid mounted hydrogenation unit that can meet the gas supply of 20MPa and 30MPa hydrogen trailers at the same time; It is the first complete explosion-proof skid mounted hydrogenation device; It is the first integrated skid mounted explosion-proof cold water system; It is also the first integrated skid mounted safety system and the first application integrated large screen skid mounted device.

Li Huaien said that China used to have similar hydrogenation station equipment package products, but the degree of integration is not high. CIMC Enrico put all functional equipment, including compressor, two sets of explosion-proof refrigeration units, hydrogenation machine control system, safety monitoring system and video monitoring system, into the container, so the structural design and monomer design are very difficult. 70MPa is equivalent to 700 times of atmospheric pressure, which is very large. The requirements for the whole system, all components, pipeline system, valves and installation and manufacturing process should be more strict.

However, the project also encountered difficulties during the experiment. Li Huaien mentioned that the pressure and leakage test of 70 MPa skid mounted fully integrated hydrogenation station equipment need to be carried out. In order to ensure safety, the test pressure should be up to 103 MPa and maintained for 24 hours. This intensity is very extraordinary. However, there is always leakage in the test process. Hydrogen molecules are particularly small, and the leakage point is not easy to find. When I couldn’t find the problem, I was very anxious. The team checked the parts and pipeline sections one by one. It took a long time and finally solved the problem.

“The test process is very careful and patient.” Li Huaien sighed, “to ensure the safety of the product, the pressure and leakage test need to be observed continuously for more than 24 hours. After the leakage point is found, it needs to be observed for another 24 hours. The team once worked continuously for two days and two nights. In addition, the weather was very cold at that time, it was really not easy for everyone.”

Commercial hydrogen

Hydrogen has special physical properties. Besides being clean, low-carbon and high calorific value, flammability and explosion are also its characteristics that can not be ignored. Therefore, the safe application of hydrogen energy is very important, which is also the technical difficulty to be overcome by current hydrogen energy equipment.

The 70 MPa skid mounted fully integrated hydrogenation station equipment has made special treatment in terms of explosion-proof. Li Huaien introduced that safety issues should be fully considered and safety measures should be strictly taken in the whole process and every link from product design to production and manufacturing. Every part in the container is explosion-proof, and some unit parts even need to be specially customized with suppliers. The explosion-proof unit configuration of this equipment is the most advanced in China’s hydrogenation stations.

In addition, because the project is configured for the hydrogenation station in Zhangjiakou competition area, it needs to face extremely cold weather conditions outdoors. The 70 MPa skid mounted fully integrated hydrogenation station equipment is also designed for low temperature protection. It is reported that most of the materials in the equipment are stainless steel, which is more suitable for use in low temperature environment. All the parts involving liquid inside are equipped with antifreeze. If the temperature is low to a certain extent, the automatic control system of the equipment will also enable the heating device and thermal insulation device. The container itself also plays a protective role, which can ensure the normal operation of the equipment under low temperature.

Due to the high cost and other problems, hydrogen energy has not yet realized large-scale commercial application. According to Li Huaien’s analysis, if hydrogen energy wants to become a mass energy, economy, low cost and easy use are indispensable. From an economic perspective, the hydrogen industry needs to first reduce the cost of hydrogen production and equipment. It is believed that after the terminal application reaches a certain scale in the future, the upstream and downstream costs of hydrogen energy will be reduced, and the commercialization degree of hydrogen energy will be higher.
