Chang’e-5 backup storage of lunar samples and handover of some lunar samples officially entered Shaoshan, Tibet

Surging news reporters learned from the National Space Administration that on December 25, the handover ceremony of Chang’e 5 backup storage samples was held in Shaoshan City, Hunan Province, Chairman Mao’s hometown, and the Lunar Sample backup storage base of the lunar exploration project was officially opened. The National Space Administration issued the backup certificate of chang’e-5 lunar samples to Hunan University and Shaoshan City respectively, and some lunar samples officially entered Shaoshan, Tibet.

Zhang Kejian, director of the National Space Administration, said that the lunar samples collected by China for the first time are precious achievements made by tens of thousands of scientific and technological workers in decades of struggle to build a space power and realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Storing the backup lunar samples in Shaoshan not only deeply remembers Chairman Mao’s great achievements for the Chinese nation and the people of the world, comforts Chairman Mao’s long cherished wish to “reach the nine heavens and the moon”, but also fully demonstrates the innovative achievements of China’s aerospace in the new era, which is conducive to giving full play to the resource advantages of red tourism holy land and building a platform to popularize Aerospace knowledge and promote Aerospace spirit, It is of great significance to further stimulate patriotic enthusiasm and embark on the new journey of the second Centennial goal. It is hoped that Shaoshan base will give play to the spillover effect of lunar sample storage, attract more scientific research institutes, high-tech enterprises and colleges and universities to join the lunar and planetary exploration project, further promote the development of aerospace industry, gather more innovative and entrepreneurial talents, and help the rapid development of innovative science and technology industry in Hunan.

Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, paid tribute to the scientific and technological workers who participated in various tasks of the lunar exploration project and thanked the national director of aerospace for his concern and support for Hunan. He said that the National Space Administration took Shaoshan as the only Lunar Sample backup storage base in China, which is a deep friendship to Chairman Mao’s hometown. We will cherish our honor, shoulder our responsibilities, manage, protect and operate the base well, and take this opportunity to seize the aviation Addsino Co.Ltd(000547) opportunity, strengthen the guidance of scientific and technological innovation, vigorously carry forward the spirit of lunar exploration, participate in tackling key problems in major aerospace scientific research tasks, accelerate the pilot of global low altitude airspace management reform and Beidou low altitude comprehensive application demonstration, and strengthen and expand the aerospace industry, Strive to occupy a place in the territory of building a space power. It is hoped that the National Space Administration will continue to support Hunan, guide relevant units in our province to participate in the construction of national major projects, and contribute more to the high-quality development of aerospace industry.

Setting up a sample backup storage base is an international common practice, which can improve the long-term safe storage capacity of lunar samples and avoid the impact of extreme situations such as natural disasters on sample safety. In 2014, the Bureau of science, technology and industry for national defense and the Ministry of Finance approved Hunan University to build the country’s only Lunar Sample backup storage base in Swan mountain, Shaoshan City; In July 2021, the project was completed and passed the technical evaluation of storage conditions. In November, it passed the project completion acceptance and approval, and has the conditions for backup storage of lunar samples.

At present, the fourth phase of the lunar exploration project and the planetary exploration project have been fully launched and implemented. In addition to the measures for the management of lunar samples and the articles of association of the Lunar Sample expert committee, NASA will continue to organize the management of lunar samples, coordinate and promote relevant scientific research, uphold the concept of mutually beneficial cooperation, actively promote cooperation with international peers in the field of scientific research, and promote in-depth research on lunar samples by Chinese and foreign scientists, Strive to obtain more scientific achievements and contribute to improving human cognition.
