Yang Xiaoguang, nutrition and Health Institute of CDC: the construction of positive labeling system for prepackaged food is imperative

On December 23, Yang Xiaoguang, researcher of Institute of nutrition and health of China Center for Disease Control and prevention and vice president of China Nutrition Society, said that it is imperative to build a positive labeling system for prepackaged food.

It is reported that the front identification of food packaging is a part of supplementary nutritional information. It is usually located in the main field of vision on the front of the packaging. Simple icons are used to display the main nutritional information and characteristics of food, so as to supplement the more detailed nutritional composition table in the label on the back.

Yang Xiaoguang said that it is imperative to build a positive identification system for prepackaged food from the perspective of consumer protection. At present, the prominent problems in people’s health include relative excess energy and insufficient intake of micronutrients, which are specifically manifested in the lack of minerals and other micronutrients in the body and overweight, which is caused by unreasonable diet and lifestyle. “From this point of view, the positive identification of food packaging is very necessary.”

Yang Xiaoguang also mentioned that at present, the Chinese people are lack of overall nutrition knowledge. Even if some nutrition information has been marked on the existing food packaging, people do not understand the impact of this information on health and can not make their own judgment on the choice of food. This also shows that the construction of positive identification system for prepackaged food is imperative and necessary.
