Shanghai’s high-end manufacturing industry has made great achievements again. On December 22, the world’s first ultra kilometer high temperature superconducting cable demonstration section project (hereinafter referred to as the “demonstration section project”) held a launching ceremony in Shanghai and successfully connected to the grid for power transmission. Gong Zheng, deputy secretary of Shanghai municipal Party committee and mayor, attended the launching ceremony and announced the official launch of the demonstration section project. Dong Yunhu, chairman of the Municipal People’s Political Consultative Conference, and Zhang Zhigang, general manager of the national household appliance network, unveiled the “Shanghai superconducting manufacturing innovation center”, and vice mayor Zhang Wei delivered a speech.
It is reported that the demonstration section project is independently developed, manufactured and laid by Shanghai Aosheng Group International superconducting company (hereinafter referred to as “Aosheng group”). This is the world’s first commercial application of HTS cable with a length of more than one kilometer and supporting the backbone power grid of mega cities, which means that Shanghai is accelerating its construction into a “global excellent manufacturing base”. Specifically, the demonstration section project is located in the central section of Xuhui District, Shanghai. The design ampacity of superconducting cable is 2200 amps and the laying length is 1.2km. One 35 kV superconducting cable line replaces the original four 35 kV conventional cables. All data indicators of the demonstration section project are ahead of the international advanced level.
A background that needs to be mentioned is that urban development is inseparable from reliable power supply. HTS cable is a revolutionary technology for building a new urban power system, which will help to change the traditional power grid ecology. It is an important starting point for the country to achieve the goal of “carbon peaking and carbon neutralization”.
The reporter learned that HTS cable has three technical advantages: first, low loss and energy saving. High temperature superconducting cable system uses high temperature superconducting material as conductor, which can transmit strong current and basically achieve zero loss. Second, small volume and large capacity. One superconducting cable can replace nine traditional cables with the same voltage level, which can not only carry out high-capacity transmission, but also save laying space and greatly reduce the cost. Third, green environmental protection. Superconducting cables have no electromagnetic radiation in the transmission process, which can alleviate the people’s “uneasy” psychology of power infrastructure such as substations, transformers and transmission and transformation lines, and reduce the project cost and implementation difficulty.
Superconducting industry is one of the emerging industries cultivated by Shanghai. Over the past 15 years, Shanghai has continuously supported the R & D and industrialization of HTS and has become the city with the most complete superconducting cable industry chain in China. The commercial operation of the super long demonstration section project will not only promote Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta to become the highland of the world’s high temperature superconducting industry, but also greatly enhance China’s voice and influence in the field of global superconducting science and technology.
“In every scientific and technological innovation, Aosheng has been used to going through a lonely period of 5 to 10 years.” For the successful start of the demonstration section project, Tang Liang, chairman of Aosheng group, said that only when private enterprises concentrate on the “cold bench”, concentrate on scientific and technological innovation, always maintain a sense of crisis, and constantly keep up with international first-class enterprises, can the future and development of the enterprise be guaranteed, and it is possible to jump from “temporarily advanced” to “always leading”.
