The reporter learned from the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that on December 22, the international first 400MW salt cavern compressed air energy storage demonstration project was launched in Jiangsu. The project is jointly promoted by the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Suyan group and China National Energy Storage Corporation. After completion, the project will become the largest compressed air energy storage system in the world, Effectively promote the industrialization process of salt cavern compressed air energy storage technology.
It is understood that the working principle of compressed air energy storage technology is to use low-quality and low valley electric driven multistage compressor to compress the air to high pressure, and store it in the gas storage system after cooling through interstage heat storage. When energy release is required, release the high-pressure air from the gas storage system, and drive the turbine generator set for power generation after heating by the pre stage heat storage system. This technology is an energy storage technology suitable for large-scale application. It has the characteristics of large capacity, long service life, low cost and good economy. The salt cavern after mineral salt mining is suitable for gas storage, which can greatly reduce the construction cost of compressed air energy storage power station.
The reporter learned that China has made internationally leading research and development achievements in the field of compressed air energy storage technology, and has built a number of international advanced compressed air energy storage demonstration systems. The project will make use of the salt cavity resources in Jiangsu Province and build a new industrial model of “Salt + energy storage”. In the future, it will be conducive to the consumption and utilization of new energy such as large-scale offshore wind power in Jiangsu, promote the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient new energy system, and help achieve the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutralization.
