Digital RMB joins hands with meituan to promote “all low carbon in food, drink, housing and transportation”

Recently, meituan announced to further expand the carbon neutralization pilot of digital RMB. Anyone who participates in green and low-carbon consumption in meituan can receive the corresponding digital RMB low-carbon reward.

It is understood that this is the first time that digital RMB has entered the all low-carbon scene of daily life on a large scale. On the meituan platform, users will be able to obtain a certain number of digital RMB rewards as long as they are recognized as green and low-carbon consumption behavior, whether ordering takeout, purchasing fresh food or online purchasing e-tickets, reducing paper and plastic for train tickets.

The relevant person in charge of meituan said that “all low-carbon food, drink, housing and transportation” is the main direction of the digital RMB pilot in the next stage. In September this year, meituan launched a multi currency low-carbon cycling activity under the guidance of the digital currency Research Institute of the central bank, which is also the first multi local linkage pilot of the theme of digital RMB carbon neutralization.

“The pilot in the past three months has proved that digital RMB has a long-term pulling effect on improving users’ green and low-carbon consumption behavior”. Meituan disclosed that the data show that users who ride low-carbon through digital RMB continue to choose low-carbon riding in the choice of travel mode than ordinary users.

Chen Wen, director of the digital economy research center of Southwest University of Finance and economics, told the media that digital RMB has programmable properties and can load smart contracts for conditional payment. This advantage makes it particularly suitable for low-carbon behavior incentives. From the perspective of meituan’s digital RMB carbon neutralization pilot, after the user completes the low-carbon behavior, the preset “carbon neutralization reward conditions” of digital RMB will be triggered in the payment link, so as to obtain the low-carbon red envelope of digital RMB. In this way, the payment process aiming at green and low-carbon leads users to continuously complete green and low-carbon tasks, so as to form a low-carbon lifestyle.

Meituan disclosed that in the three months since the launch of the first multi currency low-carbon cycling activity, nearly 8 million users have signed up, of which nearly 2 million users downloaded and opened digital RMB personal wallets during the activity. These users have accumulated more than 42 million green riding kilometers. Compared with driving ordinary fuel vehicles, it is expected to reduce carbon emissions by about 11400 tons under the same traffic volume. The comparison data also shows that although the weather is getting colder, the number of riding orders and kilometers of users in the second and third months after opening a multi currency wallet can still grow steadily compared with the first month.

With the in-depth expansion of the digital RMB pilot, the combination of digital RMB and green low-carbon has also become the focus of the recent institutional scene layout. According to incomplete statistics, at present, the low-carbon pilot of digital RMB is mainly concentrated in the field of green travel. Previously, Industrial And Commercial Bank Of China Limited(601398) launched a pilot activity of digital RMB to encourage users to travel by subway, while Changsha and Qingdao used digital RMB to encourage public transportation and walking respectively.
