Supreme Procuratorate: strengthen the handling of public interest litigation and build a firewall for personal information protection

According to statistics released by the Supreme People's Procuratorate on the 27th, in 2021, procuratorial organs handled more than 2000 public interest litigation cases in the field of personal information protection, a year-on-year increase of nearly three times. The procuratorial organ found that the current personal information protection is faced with prominent problems such as illegal collection of personal information by mobile app, insufficient regulatory force for personal information protection and so on. In this regard, the procuratorial organ will continue to strengthen the handling of public interest litigation and promote the implementation of the personal information protection law in the next step.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate proposed to protect the personal information of specific groups such as children, women, the disabled, the elderly and soldiers, and focus on protecting the personal information processed in the fields of education, medical treatment, employment, pension and consumption, as well as the large-scale personal information involving more than 1 million people. In handling cases, we should not only strengthen the internal connection and cooperation of procuratorial organs, but also strengthen the cooperation with departments such as Internet information, industry and information technology, public security and market supervision, so as to form a joint force of personal information protection and supervision. The procuratorial organ will also urge relevant units or departments to take effective preventive measures by putting forward procuratorial suggestions, strengthen information security from the source and build a "firewall" for personal information protection.
