With the successful completion of “warm nuclear No. 1” – phase II of the national energy and nuclear heating commercial demonstration project recently, about 200000 residents in Haiyang City, where Shandong Haiyang nuclear power plant is located, have used “zero carbon” heating in the heating season of 2022. Behind the historic breakthrough of “warm nuclear No. 1” is the comprehensive insurance guarantee and risk management support provided by China nuclear insurance community.
Nuclear heating uses the steam in the nuclear power unit as the heat source, carries out multi-channel isolation and multi-level heat exchange through the heat exchange station, and finally transfers the heat to the users through the municipal heating pipe network. In this process, there is only heat transfer, and there is no exchange of water and other media, so as to ensure the cleanness and safety of users’ heating. Compared with the original heating relying on fossil energy, nuclear heating has two advantages of benefiting the people and reducing carbon.
It is reported that “warm core 1” will reduce power consumption by 9 million kwh in each heating season, save 100000 tons of coal, reduce 180000 tons of carbon dioxide, 1188 tons of sulfur dioxide and 1123 tons of nitrogen oxides, which is equivalent to planting 1000 hectares of broad-leaved forest, and truly realize low-carbon green heating. At present, in addition to “warm nuclear No. 1”, Qinshan nuclear power plant in Haiyan City, Zhejiang Province and Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant in Wafangdian City, Liaoning Province are also carrying out the construction of nuclear heating projects, which are expected to be put into operation during the 14th Five Year Plan period.
