The General Administration of Customs recently issued an announcement to remind consumers to “temporarily not buy through any channels” and “immediately suspend consumption” of Abbott’s related infant products.
According to the announcement, on February 18, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it was investigating complaints of four infants infected with cronobacteria and Salmonella. According to the FDA, all four infants were reported to have consumed milk powder produced by Abbott at its Sturgis factory in Michigan, including Similac, Alimentum and EleCare.
The reporter checked the official website of FDA and found that according to the preliminary investigation results, FDA advised consumers not to buy and eat the following infant formula milk powder of the enterprises involved: the first two digits of the product code are 22 to 37; The code on the container contains K8, SH or Z2; The shelf life is April 1, 2022 and later.
After verification by the General Administration of customs, the above products have not been exported to China through general trade; The special medical product produced by the enterprise involved – “Xikang Baotian” infant nutritional supplement has an export record to China, and Abbott China has launched an independent recall.
It is worth noting that not exporting to China through general trade does not mean that Chinese consumers cannot buy these products. The General Administration of Customs reminded consumers not to buy the above infant formula through any channels. If the enterprise purchases relevant batches of infant formula milk powder through non general trade channels such as Haitao, it shall be suspended immediately. If you buy the above special medical products, you should immediately stop eating them.
The announcement said that the General Administration of Customs will closely follow up the progress of FDA’s investigation and inform consumers in time.
