Zhangjiakou has a wind energy resource reserve of more than 20 million kilowatts, which is the first area in China to be approved to build a double million kilowatt wind power base; The annual average sunshine hours are about 3000 hours, and the annual total solar radiation is 1600 kwh per square meter. In July 2015, the State Council officially approved the establishment of Zhangjiakou renewable energy demonstration zone. At present, the installed capacity of renewable energy in the city has reached 23.47 million KW.
“Expressway” connects Beijing

On June 29, 2020, the power grid project will be put into operation. After being connected to Zhangjiakou large-scale clean energy, it can supply power to 26 venues in the three competition areas of Beijing Winter Olympic Games. According to the person in charge of State Grid Hebei Electric Power Co., Ltd., the total amount of green power that can be transmitted annually reaches 14 billion kwh, saving 4.9 million tons of standard coal and reducing 12.8 million tons of carbon dioxide every year.
Zhangbei flexible DC power grid is also equipped with Fukang converter station on the road of green power transmission, which plays the role of new energy diversion.
Relying on Hebei Fengning pumped storage power station, Fukang converter station regulates the operation of the whole system – when there is surplus power, it converts electric energy into potential energy of water and stores it. When the power is in short supply, the 400 meter drop can be used to discharge water for power generation to ensure the stable output of power, which is equivalent to assembling a super “charging treasure” for the Winter Olympic Games.
This “expressway” brings together the rich renewable energy in Zhangjiakou, makes use of the complementarity between wind power, photovoltaic, energy storage and other energy forms, overcomes the intermittent and unstable problems of renewable energy power generation, realizes the collection and delivery of Zhangbei ten million kilowatt new energy base, and effectively supports the Winter Olympic venues to realize 100% clean energy power supply.

Liu Yumin, director of the planning and Construction Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Winter Olympic Games, recently introduced that by the end of the 2022 winter Paralympic Games, the Winter Olympic venues are expected to consume about 400 million kwh of green electricity, which can reduce the combustion of 128000 tons of standard coal and 320000 tons of carbon dioxide.
