Reuters reported on February 8 that Shyft group, a special vehicle manufacturer, said on Tuesday that it is expected to start manufacturing medium-sized electric delivery vehicles at a factory in the southeastern United States by the middle of 2023, marking Shyft's re-entry into the field of commercial electric vehicles. Daryl Adams, the company's chief executive, said customized electric trucks would be delivered to customers for testing in the second half of this year. With an initial annual capacity of 2500 trucks, Shyft will add similar plants in the western and central United States.
In June 2021, Shyft announced its plan to bring its class 3 electric chassis platform to the market, and then said it would manufacture a Class 3 medium-sized electric delivery vehicle. The company has made custom chassis for about 50 years and has converted gasoline powered vehicles into electric vehicles in the past decade. Adams said that Shyft's decision to enter the field of class 3 electric trucks was to meet the needs of its customer base, including UPS, FedEx and Amazon; At present, the company has invested up to 75 million US dollars in the project.
