On the evening of February 4, the opening ceremony of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games was grandly held in the National Stadium. With the last torch inserted into the main torch platform, the stars are bright and the “snowflakes” bloom. The moment the main torch tower was lit, the Beijing East Olympic Games officially kicked off in the collision between ice and fire.
The heart of the “flying” torch of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games was designed by Aerospace Hi-Tech Holding Group Co.Ltd(000901) group and used the hydrogen energy technology of liquid rocket engine to realize the use of hydrogen energy for the torch of the Winter Olympic Games for the first time. In addition, the “flying” torch also uses 3D printing technology. Hart 3D (Zhongshan) metal materials Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Hart 3D”) located in Cuiheng new area, Zhongshan City is one of the enterprises participating in the design and production of the “flying” torch.
According to the relevant person in charge of Hart 3D, the “flying” torch uses green, environmentally friendly and combustible hydrogen as fuel. It is the world’s first set of high-pressure hydrogen storage torch, realizing zero carbon emission of the torch in the history of the Winter Olympics. In addition, the “flying” torch is shaped like a ribbon dancing, rotating and rising, and finally appears as a flying flame, full of beautiful implications.
However, the artistic modeling further compresses the internal space of the torch and increases the difficulty of torch design, processing and manufacturing. The “high appearance” of the main torch needs excellent technical support. It is necessary to show the lightness of the torch and realize the stability of the overall structure.
Hart 3D was founded in 2017 with its core technical team from Harbin University of technology. It is a high-tech enterprise focusing on additive manufacturing powder materials and overall solutions for industrial applications. In order to realize the perfect combination of Beijing Winter Olympic torch aerospace technology and art, Harbin University of technology, Hart 3D and Aerospace Hi-Tech Holding Group Co.Ltd(000901) group jointly tackle key problems and use the increasingly widely used 3D printing technology in the aerospace industry to manufacture the torch.
The design and production team tested a variety of 3D printing materials, optimized the internal structure of the torch, systematically verified and improved the printing process, and finally successfully prepared a hydrogen torch and its combustion system that fully met the requirements to ensure the reliability of torch combustion.
In order to ensure the appearance quality and combustion effect of the flare, in addition to the dimensional accuracy requirements, it is also necessary to ensure that the internal density of the 3D printing flare is close to 100%. Therefore, Harbin Institute of technology and Hart 3D technology team optimized 3D printing equipment and process, further improved printing efficiency and internal quality, and fully met all requirements of torch production.
