The Ministry of Commerce answered questions on the US announcement to extend the global safeguard measures for photovoltaic products

Some media asked: the US photovoltaic global safeguard measure (measure 201) expires on February 6, 2022. According to the recommendation of the US International Trade Commission, the US government announced on February 4 that the measure would be extended for four years. What is the comment of the Ministry of Commerce on this?

The head of the trade remedy Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce said that over the past 10 years, the United States has taken a number of trade restrictions on imported photovoltaic products. This time, the US government insisted on extending the 201 measures despite the strong opposition of relevant parties outside China, which not only did not help the healthy development of the US China industry, but also distorted the normal international trade order of photovoltaic as a new energy product.

Photovoltaic products are important clean energy products. Their increasingly wide application helps to effectively deal with climate change and is of great significance to achieve the greenhouse gas emission reduction targets of various countries. At present, the urgency and importance of climate change and clean energy transformation are becoming more and more obvious. China is willing to continue to uphold the spirit of cooperation and work with other countries to promote global low greenhouse gas emissions, climate adaptation and sustainable development. It is hoped that the United States will take practical actions to jointly address climate change, promote global free trade, safeguard the rule-based multilateral trading system, facilitate the free trade of new energy products, and contribute to the global development of a low greenhouse gas emission economy and the common well-being of all mankind.
