Tesla will disable the "rolling parking" function of FSD system and recall 53822 vehicles

Bloomberg News February 1st, Tesla will suspend its FSD automatic driving system's "rolling stop" function. This feature allows Tesla cars to slowly cross the intersection without other vehicles or pedestrians.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's recall notice, Tesla will recall a total of 53822 model s and model x from 2016 to 2022, model 3 from 2017 to 2022, and model y from 2020 to 2022. After the news of the recall, Tesla shares rose 0.2% before trading.

According to The Verge, Tesla's FSD automatic driving test system allows owners to choose from three driving modes: "cool", "general" and "confident". Confidence mode allows vehicles to follow other vehicles more closely, change lanes more frequently and roll through intersections. If the system does not detect other vehicles, pedestrians or cyclists, the "rolling stop" function allows the car to pass the intersection at a speed of 5.6 mph. However, this function can only be activated at intersections with sufficient visibility and a speed limit of no more than 30 mph.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warned that entering the intersection without complete stop may increase the risk of collision. It met with the head of Tesla on January 10 and January 19, 2022, and the latter replied on January 20 that it would voluntarily disable the function.
