Farmer “mentor” Huang Kairong: “old style” to break a new path

“Lao Du, the weather forecast for the Spring Festival says that the temperature is low. We should pay attention to the heat preservation of the greenhouse and ventilation every few days.” “Yes, Lao Huang, I’ll call you at any time if there’s anything going on during the Spring Festival. Please come and help.”

On the eve of the Spring Festival, Huang Kairong, an agricultural technician from the agricultural technology service center of Tailai Yi and Miao Township, Qianxi City, Guizhou Province, came to the morel planting base in Dushan village to remind the local manager Du Gangping of the precautions of low temperature, rain and snow in the near future.

These common dialogues are the daily portrayal of Lao Huang’s agricultural technology work for more than 30 years. Huang Kairong joined the work in 1988. As an agricultural technician, he has been busy for the promotion of agricultural technology such as fruit trees, vegetables and rice planting in the village for a long time.

“Old style” will also face new challenges. From the second half of 2019, in order to consolidate the achievements of poverty alleviation, Qianxi city has supported a number of “short, flat and fast” high-efficiency agricultural industries and promoted the cultivation of morel in some villages and towns. “At that time, everyone was exposed to Morchella for the first time. We were still unfamiliar with this industry and had a lot of pressure.” Huang Kairong recalled.

In 2019, Huang Kairong settled in Bajiao village, Tailai township to help the poor. The local government invested more than 200000 yuan to build 55 greenhouses for the development of morel cultivation. “Morchella has relatively delicate requirements for the growth environment, ‘three parts of Yang and seven parts of Yin’, and is quite picky about the requirements for humidity, temperature, soil acidity and alkalinity, water source and so on.” Huang Kairong read in his heart: “when the industrial foundation is built, our agricultural technicians should play a leading role, otherwise I’m sorry for you.”

In order to study this new planting industry, Huang Kairong got up at five in the morning, consulted and studied relevant materials, experimented and explored the cultivation of Morchella in the greenhouse, and went home in the dark with a flashlight at night. In order to open his eyes, he went to other places at his own expense and found several Morel planting enterprises to learn planting experience

After several explorations, Huang Kairong and local village cadres gradually found a way to plant Morel. In the spring of 2020, Morchella in 55 greenhouses in Bajiao village ushered in a bumper harvest, with a yield of more than 300 kg per mu, which not only recovered the previous investment cost, but also helped 33 poor households in Bajiao village increase their income by 300 yuan.

Morel planting technology has also been extended to other villages. In a low-lying area of Dushan village, under the technical guidance of Huang Kairong, the local farmers’ cooperatives have developed 78 greenhouses to plant morels by taking advantage of the “time difference” in the flood season. “Morel is planted in winter and harvested in March next spring. The fresh fungus is about 50 yuan per kilogram. Now the morel greenhouse in this land is well managed. Next year should be a bumper harvest season.” Huang Kairong said happily.

In addition to ” Shenzhen New Industries Biomedical Engineering Co.Ltd(300832) “, Lao Huang also studied his “old line” conscientiously. He spent most of his time in the fields of Tailai township to help farmers and large growers solve the problems encountered in the planting of fruit trees, rice and vegetables.

On the eve of the Spring Festival, the temperature was cold. Huang Kairong came to Fangtian village to check the management and protection of sun Yuancai’s family, a large local autumn plum grower. Looking left and asking right, Lao Huang pointed out the problem: “the gum disease on the tree needs attention, otherwise it will cause complications and affect the growth of fruit trees. It needs to be solved with stone sulfur mixture.” Hearing Lao Huang’s “prescription”, sun Yuancai repeatedly thanked him and asked him to come back next time.
