Recently, counter point research, a market research institution, released a report that vivo, oppo, apple, Xiaomi and glory ranked among the top five in China’s smartphone shipments in 2021. Vivo ranked first in China’s mobile phone market share. Looking forward to 2022, many institutions believe that folding screen mobile phones are expected to contribute to the increment. The counter point research report shows that in 2021, vivo’s market share was 22%, ranking first in the Chinese market. Oppo’s market share is 21%, ranking second. Apple, Xiaomi and glory ranked third to fifth with market shares of 16%, 15% and 10% respectively.

On January 28, canalys, another research institution, reported that in China’s smartphone market, vivo shipped 71.5 million units in 2021, with a market share of 21%, ranking first. In addition, oppo, Xiaomi, apple and glory ranked second to fifth.

On January 24, Shen Wei, founder, President and CEO of vivo, said in the company’s 2022 Spring Festival speech that 2021 is a year of great turning significance for vivo and the first year of qualitative change for vivo. 2022 will be the most challenging year for the smart phone industry. Counterpoint research reported that the competition of mobile phone brands is intensifying and the market is changing rapidly. In 2021, oppo was the top brand in the first quarter, vivo took the lead in the second and third quarters, and apple became the first in the fourth quarter.

The counter point research report pointed out that since the fourth quarter of 2015, apple surpassed vivo for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2021 to become the largest mobile phone brand in the Chinese market, accounting for 23% of the market share, a record high. According to the analysis of counterpoint research, driven by strong offline penetration and extensive product portfolio strategy, vivo and oppo ranked second and third respectively. Vivo’s performance is driven by X70 series and S series, while oppo takes off with Reno 7 series. After restoring the relationship with suppliers, glory also began to rebound in the second half of 2021, ranking fourth in the fourth quarter. Xiaomi ranked fifth in the quarter.

Looking forward to the first half of 2022, Citic Securities Company Limited(600030) believes that the basic disk of mobile phones is expected to resume steady growth, and innovative forms such as folding screen mobile phones are expected to contribute incremental growth.

In December 2021, oppo and Huawei successively released new folding screen mobile phones. In January 2022, glory’s first folding screen mobile phone was released. Counterpoint research reported that folding screen products have brought new shapes to smartphone design. As folding screen phones become more affordable, they may push some users to upgrade.
