China Watch: what is RCEP? What impact will it have on China?

The regional comprehensive economic partnership agreement (RCEP) entered into force on January 1, 2022. RCEP is a multilateral trade agreement among 10 ASEAN countries, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

Several indicators proposed by the Congressional Research Service (CRS) show that RCEP is the largest regional trade agreement in the world (Figure 1). In 2020, the proportion of the agreement in global GDP, commodity trade and population exceeded that of the US Mexico Canada trilateral agreement (usmca), the economic partnership agreement (EU Japan) and the comprehensive and progressive cross The Pacific Securities Co.Ltd(601099) partnership agreement (cptpp).
