On the occasion of the coming year of the tiger in renyin, Southern Publishing And Media Co.Ltd(601900) and Nanfeng academy held a special exhibition on Lingnan New Year customs, including national intangible cultural heritage projects such as Foshan woodblock New Year pictures and Guangdong paper cutting, Lingnan New Year customs publications, traditional Lingnan halls and paintings of Lingnan masters, so that people can feel the strong Lingnan New Year flavor. The exhibition starts today and lasts until February 28.

In Lingnan, some customs, such as visiting flower streets and washing sloppy clothes, are still thriving. Others, such as offering sacrifices to the kitchen god on the 23rd of the year and the God of wealth on the second day of the year, were once an essential part of the Lingnan Spring Festival, but are gradually disappearing with the development of the times.

It is reported that this exhibition will take time as the axis to lead the audience through the present and the past and relive a complete Lingnan Spring Festival. The highlight of this exhibition is two national intangible cultural heritage projects with Guangdong characteristics and integrating traditional New Year culture – Foshan woodblock New Year pictures and Guangdong paper cutting.

Foshan woodblock New Year pictures began in the song and Yuan Dynasties, flourished in the Ming Dynasty, flourished in the Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. They are as famous as Yangliuqing in Tianjin, Taohuawu in Suzhou and Weifang in Shandong. They are one of the four woodblock New Year pictures in China. It used to be an important decoration for the year-old Festival and family house in Lingnan area. In the past, it sold well all over Lingnan and even overseas, carrying people’s longing and wishes for a better life.

Due to the changes of the times, Foshan woodblock New Year pictures gradually declined and even completely disappeared under the impact of modern lifestyle. It was not until the late 1990s that Feng Bingtang, the son of the famous New Year artist Feng Jun (nicknamed “door god Jun”), gave up his original career and studied and studied again in order to realize his father’s last wish. Feng’s new year painting workshop founded by him is the only existing workshop in Foshan that still adheres to the production of New Year paintings. This exhibition shows a full set of production tools and production processes of Feng’s new year painting workshop, as well as representative works such as door god and God of wealth.

Guangdong paper cutting is also another national intangible cultural heritage project in this exhibition. The paper-cut exhibits in this exhibition come from intangible cultural heritage inheritors and enthusiasts in Foshan, Shantou, Chaoyang, Leizhou and other places. They not only inherit the ancient intangible cultural heritage skills and show the colorful regional characteristics of Lingnan, but also make bold innovations in artistic style and painting content in combination with the preferences of modern people. On the paper as thin as cicada wings, it is carved like embroidery, making the scenery scattered and vivid.

In addition, the exhibition also has rich contents such as Lingnan New Year’s popular publications, traditional Lingnan hall and Lingnan masters’ paintings. The antique furniture furnishings and the traditional Chinese paintings and oil paintings of many masters have brought a unique cultural and artistic experience to the audience.
