On May 23 local time, Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri announced the decision of the cabinet meeting held on the same day: from June 1, Malaysia will stop exporting 3.6 million chickens a month until chicken prices and production return to stability.
Sabri said that for the supply and price of chicken, the Malaysian cabinet has made various decisions on the 23rd, and stopping the export of chicken is only one of the short-term measures.
Recently, the price of chicken, the meat most consumed by Malaysians, soared by 45%, from 8.9 ringgit (about 14 yuan) to 13 ringgit (about 20 yuan) per kilogram, and there was a shortage of chicken supply. In view of this situation, the Malaysian government has launched a special allocation of 529 million ringgit (about 800 million yuan), and subsidized chicken farmers with 0.6 ringgit (about 0.9 yuan) per kilogram of chicken, but it is said to be still a drop in the bucket.
