Some industry analysts pointed out that the production capacity of Tesla‘s Shanghai plant will not return to the pre closure level until mid May at the earliest.
21 Century Business Herald reporter Peng Suping reports from Shanghai
On April 18, it was reported that Tesla‘s Shanghai plant might resume production later that afternoon. Tesla did not respond positively to this message, but said it would actively fight the epidemic and arrange various resumption of production according to the requirements of the government.
According to the newly released list of the first batch of 666 key enterprises to resume work and production in Shanghai, “Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.” located in Shanghai Lingang Holdings Co.Ltd(600848) is listed among them and is listed as “discontinued enterprises that must resume work”.
Tesla Shanghai Super factory had previously stopped production twice due to epidemic prevention control: Tesla stopped production for two consecutive days on March 16 and March 17. Since March 28, Tesla suspended the production activities of the factory with regional closure. It is reported that Tesla’s second round of shutdown was originally planned for four days, but then the resumption plan was cancelled.
GLJ research, a research firm, wrote in a report issued to customers that according to internal information, Tesla’s Shanghai plant will stop production until at least mid May, and is expected to wait until the end of the third quarter of 2022.
Earlier, there was news in the market that Tesla said in response to American investors that the Shanghai government told them that it could resume work as early as mid May (which means that most employees’ personal freedom and parts supply were restored). However, on April 15, Tao Lin, vice president of Tesla’s Foreign Affairs, said on the social platform, “this is a rumor.”
Industry analyst Guo Mingyu predicted on the social platform yesterday that Tesla Shanghai Super factory could resume work as soon as today. However, after the resumption of work, the production line of the factory will be one shift operation, while before the closure of Shanghai, Tesla Shanghai factory will be two shifts, so the hourly workload will be reduced from 80-85 to 40-50.
Guo mingpeng pointed out that if we want to return to the previous production level, we need to rely on factory epidemic prevention control, the resumption of supply chain and the obvious improvement of logistics. He expects that the production capacity of Tesla’s Shanghai plant will not return to the pre closure level until mid May at the earliest.
