Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng: globalization cannot be “weaponized”

On March 19, 2022, Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng said in a speech at the Fourth International Forum on strategy and security hosted by the center for strategic and security studies of Tsinghua University that China has always opposed unilateral sanctions that lack the basis of international law and are not authorized by the Security Council. Historical experience has repeatedly proved that sanctions can not solve the problem. Instead, they are “holding on to fire” and will only intensify new contradictions. Now the sanctions against Russia are becoming more and more outrageous. Globalization is even used as a weapon. Even people in sports, culture, art and performing arts circles are not spared. Cats and trees are sanctioned, and Russian citizens’ overseas assets are unreasonably deprived. I’m afraid no one will believe what Westerners often call “science without borders”, “non politicization of sports”, sanctity and inviolability of private property, freedom of speech and spirit of contract. If such sanctions continue, will mankind return to the primitive society of “hearing the sound of chickens and dogs and not communicating with each other in old age and death”?
